Anime Decades In The Making Stuns Fans With Season 2 Announcement

On September 13, anime fans received the elusive bitter-double-sweet ending when Bye Bye, Earth aired its Season 1 finale, “Spiral: Howling Sword, Rusty Nail.” Just hours after the episode aired, fans were left stunned when the show made a surprise announcement, revealing an upcoming second season. Despite waiting over two decades for an anime TV series adaptation of the popular novel series, fans will only have to wait a fraction of that time for Season 2, which is set to premiere sometime in 2025.

Included in the announcement of Season 2 of Bye Bye, Earth was a blink and you might miss it 20-second teaser trailer you can watch below.

While the teaser didn’t exactly reveal much, fans still received a glimpse of what to expect next season, which included some emotional moments and what appears to be a very intense battle. There are no further details on an exact premiere date for Season 2, but fans can rest assured that the wait this time around won’t take decades.

Bye Bye, Earth follows the story of Belle Lablac, an outsider who doesn’t ever feel like she fits in.

Bye Bye, Earth premiered on WOWOW on July 12, 2024 before debuting on BS NTV on July 13. The anime series is also available across the globe on Crunchyroll’s streaming service. The first season of Bye Bye, Earth, saw a modest 10-episode run, with options to view both dubbed and subtitled episodes.

The anime series is directed by Yasuto Nishikata, with a script from screenwriter Hiroyuki Yoshino. Produced by WOWOW and Liden Films, Bye Bye, Earth follows the story of Belle Lablac, an outsider who doesn’t ever feel like she fits in. Belle is the only human being in a world full of anthropomorphic animals, but she hopes to one day find someone that looks just like her.

With an overwhelming feeling of loneliness and an eagerness to discover where she comes from, Belle journeys to find answers to the questions deep inside of her heart. Equipped with nothing more than her massive and intimidating sword, called the Runding, Belle takes on a world that is filled with both friends and foes. As Belle commits to her quest and takes on grand adventures, she begins to slowly understand more about herself and where she belongs.

Bye Bye, Earth is based on the novel series of the same name, written by Tow Ubukata and illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano. The novel series first hit bookshelves in December 2000, with two separate volumes. Starting in September 2007 and running through February 2008, Japanese publishing company Kadokawa Shoten published a new edition of Ubukata’s novel, this time with four volumes featuring illustrations by Hyung-Tae Kim.

The anime series is available across the globe on Crunchyroll’s streaming service.

It wasn’t until January 2020 that Bye Bye, Earth saw its first iteration as a manga, when a manga adaptation illustrated by Ryū Asahi was serialized in Shōnen Gahōsha’s seinen manga magazine Young King OURs. The manga series continued until July 2022, when its final volume was released. Just five months later, WOWOW, Sony Pictures and Crunchyroll announced its anime adaptation in November 2022.
