Quentin Tarantino Explains Why He’ll Never Make The Movie Everyone Wants

By Douglas Helm | Published

Everyone has their favorite Quentin Tarantino movie, but any martial arts fan would undoubtedly have Kill Bill at the top of their list. Unfortunately for fans, it seems like the possibility of Kill Bill 3 ever happening is essentially zero. Appearing on the Club Random Podcast with Bill Maher, Tarantino explained how he felt the Toy Story franchise ended perfectly with the third film and that he wouldn’t see the fourth film because he felt it was unneeded – which in turn is also why he is not interested in making another Kill Bill movie.

The Toy Story Connection

While the family-friendly Toy Story franchise doesn’t have much to do with Quentin Tarantino’s bloody Kill Bill franchise, Maher pressed Tarantino asking if his feelings about the Toy Story franchise are why there won’t be a Kill Bill 3, and Tarantino confirmed, “Yeah, yes, yeah… No, I did it, I killed Bill.”

While the comparison of these two franchises is pretty funny, the reasoning does make sense. While Toy Story 4 was a pretty well-received film, it felt more like an epilogue to the events of the third film that put a pretty nice bow on everything.

The Possible Story For Kill Bill 3

In any case, it seems like Quentin Tarantino is pretty firm on his stance that there won’t be a Kill Bill 3. Which is fair enough, as the first two volumes definitely stand on their own and a third film isn’t necessarily needed. With that being said, there were rumblings of the third film in the past, with the potential story following the grown-up daughter of Vivica A. Fox’s Vernita Green seeking vengeance on Uma Thurman’s Beatrix Kiddo for killing her mother when she was just four years old.

Final Film Is Still A Mystery

It would definitely be cool to see Quentin Tarantino bring this concept to life in Kill Bill 3, especially since we still don’t know what his final film will be. Tarantino has previously announced that whatever his upcoming film is, it would be his last before he retires. At this point, no one knows what that film is.

Scrapped The Movie Critic

Originally, his final film was set to be The Movie Critic, which reportedly was going to see Brad Pitt reprising his role as Cliff Booth from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. However, that film was shockingly shelved recently by Sony Motion Pictures Group and now Tarantino’s next project is up in the air. But, based on Quentin Tarantino’s comments about the Toy Story franchise and his own Kill Bill franchise, it seems like Kill Bill 3 definitely won’t be the replacement for the doomed The Movie Critic.

Kills The Hopes Of Trek Fans

Quentin Tarantino avoiding Kill Bill 3 is a disappointment, but fans were hit with another round of disappointment when Tarantino confirmed that he would never be making his long-rumored R-rated Star Trek film.

Tarantino definitively said, “It’s never going to happen,” so both sci-fi and martial arts fans won’t have any Tarantino projects to look forward to in the near future. In any case, fans are going to be waiting patiently to see what he announces as his next project, though we might have to wait for a little while since The Movie Critic cancellation is still pretty fresh.
