Game of Thrones Star Finalizes Divorce

In many bitter ways, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s divorce has seemingly been full of more emotional highs and lows than the relationship itself. After going through mediation and ironing out some highly acrimonious child custody issues, the two have finalized everything and had a judge sign off on their paperwork. For both the fans who have been rooting for reconciliation and the ones who picked sides long ago, the end of this tumultuous marriage is an opportunity for closure and for moving on.

Of course, the two stars at the center of this romantic mess had already moved on before this paperwork made everything official. Sophie Turner began dating a British aristocrat named Peregrine Pearson after Joe Jonas filed for divorce. As for Jonas, he had a brief romantic attachment to actor Stormi Bree before getting more serious with another actor, Laila Abdallah.

Part of what makes the relationship between Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas ending in divorce so tragic is that the two clearly worked on their relationship for a very long time. They began dating in 2016, and while they got engaged the next year, they didn’t officially tie the knot until 2019. In other words, they didn’t rush into anything and had years to get to know each other before getting married and having two children.

In May 2024, Turner gave an interview to British Vogue where she candidly discussed the “mom guilt” she felt about being separated from her children. She also spoke about her resentment against being referred to as one of the Jonas Brothers’ wives, though she emphasized this was an issue with the media rather than Joe himself.

Sophie Turner’s divorce drama has been going on for so long that many fans who had previously been very invested in the drama have already moved on. In this way, the rocky romance is a bit like the show that made Turner into a household name. As with Game of Thrones, this story of love and subsequent heartbreak was very captivating but ultimately ended with more of a fizzle than an explosion.
