Paris Hilton Wants To Dethrone This Summer’s Hottest Musician

Paris Hilton is someone known for many things, including her famous family name and her early reality TV stardom. She even branched out into film back in the day (shout out to that surprisingly great House of Wax remake), but she recently returned to the one medium we thought she had abandoned altogether. After 18 years, Paris Hilton has finally released a follow-up to her debut album, and she seems like she wants to dethrone this summer’s hottest musician, Charli XCX, with her declaration that “I’m the original brat.”

Paris Has Been Making Music For Decades

As a performer, Paris Hilton has worn many hats over the years, and most people don’t know that she is a veteran DJ. Her disc-slinging experience, along with a lifelong love of dance music, has inspired her to fill Infinite Icon with a number of tunes that might go on to become club classics. Speaking club classics, Hilton seems to have a complex view of Charli XCX: the heiress has admitted that she would love to collaborate with the artist behind Brat but can’t help but remind everyone that “I’m the original brat.”

A Friendly Rivalry

In a vacuum, that statement sounds petulant and maybe a bit competitive, as if Paris Hilton is hoping her new album will give her rival singer a run for her money. But that doesn’t keep the two women from having serious respect for one another: according to Hilton, Charli XCX has frequently praised her for being such a musical inspiration. Because of that existing connection and Hilton’s own place as a reigning pop princess, Hilton believes that “it just makes so much sense for us to do a song together.”

The Blueprint

While she didn’t namecheck the Brat icon for the next part, it also seems like Paris Hilton feels a sense of responsibility for Charli XCX and her success. The two may be rivals on the pop charts for the moment, but Hilton noted that she is “the blueprint for modern celebrity” and that she loves to see others  “follow in my footsteps and take that blueprint and be able to create their own brands and their own businesses and create a beautiful life to support themselves.”

Only Focused On Her Music

Originally, Paris Hilton released her self-titled debut album, though it didn’t exactly take a firm hold in our collective pop culture memorabilia. That is likely because we got a deluge of Hilton content in other areas, including her seminal reality show, The Simple Life, and subsequent TV series. Now, though, Hilton is laser-focused on a return to musical superstardom, having just released Infinite Icon, a star-studded sophomore album that features collaborations with big names like Megan Thee Stallion, Meghan Trainor, and more.

Considering that we had nearly two decades without a new Paris Hilton album, many have been surprised by the star’s return to music. Hilton, though, thinks it is perfectly consistent, noting that “I feel like a pop star all the time” during her various signings and world travels, so a new album “is just the next level.”

Trying To Be A Positive Force

Paris Hilton has never needed help supporting herself, as a combination of family wealth and her own business ventures have made the socialite fabulously wealthy. There is something edifying, though, about the idea of someone using their own extreme privilege to try to uplift others whenever possible. It’s enough to make Paris an icon for a brand new generation…though whether she remains an “infinite icon” is for history (and album sales) to decide.
