Tom Hanks Home Invaded By Burglars
Police officials in Los Angeles announced Monday that a home owned by actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson was the target of a recent burglary. While the story broke through news outlet TMZ, it was learned that the crime occurred several weeks ago and information was only released to the media yesterday. Fortunately for the Big actor and his family, no one was reported to be home at the time of the burglary.
Extent Of Robbery Has Yet To Be Made Public
According to police, the burglars broke the glass to gain access to the inside of the guest house on Tom Hanks’ estate. This action set off an alarm and likely frightened the burglars away from the property. While it’s not yet known what, if anything, was stolen from the guest house, police stated that the perpetrators did not get inside the main house.
Not Necessarily An Isolated Incident
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were not home at the time of the burglary. The couple was out of town when the daylight crime was attempted. It’s been reported that police do not believe that the couple was intentionally targeted by the thieves, instead being victim to the one of several groups of burglars that have been active in that part of the greater Los Angeles area.
At this time, there have been no arrests in connection with the break-in of Tom Hanks’ guesthouse. The case remains open and active.
Tom Hanks’ Rise To Fame
Tom Hanks has been one of the most in-demand stars in the movie industry since his first comedy films during the mid 1980s. Breaking away from television after a co-starring role in the 1980-1982 ABC sitcom Bosom Buddies, Hanks quickly saw his star rise with top billing in the comedies Splash, Bachelor Party, and The Money Pit. The following decade saw a mix of genres from the actor, ranging from comedies like A League of Their Own and Joe Versus the Volcano, to dramatic performances in Philadelphia, Apollo 13, and The Green Mile.
A Meteoric Rise To Superstardom
Tom Hanks continued to dominate the box office at the turn of the new millennium. Castaway kicked off the 2000s for Hanks, earning him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture. More dramatic roles followed with The Road to Perdition and The Terminal, but Hanks also lent his voice to animated films like The Polar Express and Cars.
While still acting, Tom Hanks has worn the director’s hat for both film and television shows, most notably the 2011 film Larry Crowne, in which he also co-starred with Julia Roberts.
Upcoming Tom Hanks Projects
In addition to directing behind the scenes, Tom Hanks has amassed dozens of credits as a producer since the late 1990s. Hanks has helped develop numerous documentaries (CNN’s decades series The Sixties, The Seventies, and The Eighties, in particular), award ceremonies, and feature films including The Great Buck Howard and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.
Currently, Tom Hanks is in the middle of producing the upcoming Carol King biopic Beautiful and the Gary Sinise vehicle No Better Place to Die, set during the invasion of Normandy in World War II.
