Marvel Disney Gets Destroyed In Dark NSFW Parody From Fan-Favorite Filmmaker
The Marvel Disney parody short, Is Now a Good Time? by indie filmmaker Jim Cummings, was recently uploaded to the social media platform X.
Is Now a Good Time? follows a Disney employee tasked with bringing an unreleased Captain America installation to a terminally ill child. Though the plot setup sounds like what could become a tragic yet heartwarming headline, the satire element takes the main stage. Take a look at Cummings’ post and see for yourself.
In the delivery of the screening, Kyle, the Disney employee, starts being grilled about Marvel Disney’s representation shortcomings. Lost for words, Kyle insists that they begin the three-hour movie which only the child can watch. They find him dead when the film ends, and Kyle starts spiraling over the child’s final moments being spent watching an unoriginal MCU multiverse cash-grab plot line
In one scene Kyle expresses, “It’s Awful. ‘Hi, I’m from Hollywood, the f**king birthplace of cinema.’ I show him Captain America 4…It’s f**king pointless.”
Jim Cummings’ commentary reflects a feeling that a large number of Marvel fans hold, when Disney acquired the cinematic universe the quality of content flew out the door and quantity became the focus.
Jim Cummings’ Marvel Disney parody comes before the release of the new MCU installment, Deadpool & Wolverine. Scheduled to release July 26, both fan-favorite characters unite after Deadpool is recruited by the Time Variance Authority to help safeguard the multiverse. This will be Marvel Disney’s 11th multiverse saga film.

Now it’s almost impossible to become a new fan. To get the full picture of what’s going on you would have to consume hundreds of hours of media. It seems like with each new Marvel Disney installment more and more audience members and previous fans are throwing in the towel.
Much can also be said for Disney Marvel’s representation of LGBTQ+ characters, which Jim Cummings directly references in the parody.
Representation in Marvel, as Cummings’ character Kyle was questioned about, has also become more and more of a problem with fans. For example, many have spoken out about how Marvel Disney writes female characters. Sure, they are on the screen, and I’m sure Marvel Disney thinks that counts for something, but the characters themselves are pretty dull and almost always play a support role.
In a think piece titled “The Problem with Women in Marvel,” published by Render Q, author Katherine Faye Nitti writes “Gender does not directly impact someone’s character. It impacts how society perceives, treats, and reacts to them. A person’s reaction to this is what impacts one’s character. These experiences created by society’s perception of one’s gender is what Marvel writers seem to neglect when they create their female characters.”

Marvel comics, separate from the MCU, have featured over 60+ queer superheroes, for example, Star-Lord, Deadpool, Captain Marvel, and Korg the Kronan rock monster all canonically belong to the community. However, Disney Marvel’s MCU has failed to carry that type of representation into its films and shows, neglecting the identities of previously LGBTQ+ characters due to fear of losing viewership.
For queer MCU fans, denying these stories feels harmful.
