The Boys Star Hates Superpower For Affecting Real Life
Actors are called such because they act. They become people they aren’t and play a role. However, some people can’t differentiate the actor from the role, which is why Jessie T. Usher, an actor in The Boys, constantly gets asked to go for a run, despite him hating that particular activity immensely.
A-Train
During an interview with Rolling Stone, Jessie T. Usher, who plays A-Train on The Boys, talked about the way his role, and the superpower he has in the show, have influenced his real life.
In the show, Jesse T. Usher plays a superhero called A-Train. He’s a major part of the story in every season of The Boys, often playing either one of the main antagonists or protagonists every season. His superpower is speed.
He’s the fastest man alive at the moment, but he knows it won’t always be the case. He trains hard even when he’s not on duty to try and keep his speed, as he knows one day, there will be a man even faster than him.
Not Much Of A Runner
During the interview, Jessie T. Usher admits his characterization of his The Boys character is based on cocky athletes, especially those at the top of their game.
“I always felt like really cocky athletes have that same persona. When you see guys come out of college or whatever, and they’re on top of their game, and they’re killing it in their rookie year — in the NBA they show them walking through the tunnel leading up to the game, and it’s like they don’t even see people. They’re just above the world.”
For the most part, he likes his role, but there are two things that Jessie T. Usher admits are rather annoying about playing A-Train on The Boys. The first is that people always assume he’s a runner.
However, during the interview, Jessie T. Usher says that the only time he runs is during his role as A-Train in The Boys. And even then, he doesn’t run much. Most of his racing in the show is done post-production, he just has to start the movement.
Strange Encounters
“I don’t even run on the treadmill. I would do anything but run for cardio. I was thrilled to find out that most of my running is going to happen in post-production. They’re like, just start and stop. I’m like, “Great. I can do that. No problem.”
In fact, he hates running. However, Jessie T. Usher gets asked to run almost every day since starting his role in The Boys. Even his best friend, who runs marathons for fun, tries to get him to join.
Sometimes people also challenge him to a fight, which he’s said he also won’t do.
He admits it’s not all bad though. Jessie T. Usher once met a high-school kid who managed to turn his whole life around thanks to The Boys, specifically A-Train. The boy really enjoyed A-Train in the series and decided to try out running for himself.
Usher’s Career
He ended up trying to cross-country and won his school championship that year. Jessie T. Usher said that the kid was pretty cool, and probably one of the only fans of The Boys he would run with.
“I did meet this one kid who basically turned his entire high-school life around because of A-Train and running. He loved the character so much, he decided to run cross-country and he took his school to the championship that year. And he asked me one day, “Can we run a race?” And I was like, ‘You know what? I might actually run with this kid. He seems cool.'”
Despite his popularity as an actor, Jessie T. Usher didn’t grow up knowing he was going to be in film, especially in TV shows like The Boys. During the interview, he admitted he wanted to be a cook.
While he did acting when he was younger, it was more of a hobby to him than a career. He even quit acting several times, but he always returned to it and did just a little bit more.
Usher Is A-Train
Somehow, without thinking about it, Jessie T. Usher fell more into acting and abandoned cooking entirely, which is how he ended up in The Boys.
“I quit acting multiple times so that I could pursue that and then I gave acting a little bit more and a little bit more, and now here we are. And I’m like, ‘Dang, man, whatever happened to the filet mignon?'”
