Netflix Needs To Rescue This Fan-Favorite Adaptation With The Perfect Series

By Nina Phillips | Published

The Remarried Empress is a popular web novel and webcomic, making it a great option to turn into a TV show right now when webcomics are a popular source for adaptations at the moment. Though a TV series was announced four years ago, nothing has been done with it quite yet. It might be time for Netflix to take over the rights to the show to make sure this series gets the love and attention it deserves.

Originally, The Remarried Empress started as an online novel. The story was created by Alphatart and published on Naver. Later, the series was adapted into a webcomic on Webtoon and illustrated by Sumpul.

A Webcomic That Would Make A Great Series

In The Remarried Empress, Navier is an empress. She grew up alongside Emperor Sovieshu since she was a child, and they’d spent most of their lives working to improve the empire and planning what they would do. The two always got along well, like best friends, though Navier was never able to conceive a child for him.

Still, she is content with being the ruler alongside her childhood friend. However, one day, her husband brings home a mistress and demands a divorce from Navier. She isn’t surprised by the turn of events and agrees, but she also asks for permission to remarry someone else, already having a backup plan in mind.

Ready Made For The Bridgerton Fanbase

The Remarried Empress delves into the details of Navier’s life, including the events that led up to her husband asking for a divorce and how she moves forward to ensure she isn’t thrown to the side. It’s a story full of political intrigue, mystery, and romance, perfect for a TV series adaptation.

Plans For A Live Action Drama

There was an announcement that Studio N was planning to make a Korean TV drama based on The Remarried Empress. However, this announcement came in 2020. Since then, there has been no new information, including the premiere date or the cast and this has left many wondering if the series is ever going to come out, or if it’s just a TV show left to be forgotten.

Netflix Has Adapated Another WebToon

As a fan of the Webtoon, I think this is a shame. The Remarried Empress is an interesting story with a wide cast of characters, some you’ll love to love and some you’ll love to hate. There are elements of revenge, mystery, drama, fantasy, and romance, everything you need for an entertaining TV show.

If Studio N is dropping the series, I think Netflix would do a great job with The Remarried Empress. They’ve done well with other live-action K-drama adaptations. In fact, Sweet Home was also a Korean Webtoon comic before it was adapted into a TV show by Netflix.

No Word Yet But Fans Are Hopeful

Though I would hope Netflix keeps close to the original story, I would also be intrigued to see what changes they made to The Remarried Empress. Sweet Home had some pretty dramatic changes but many ended up working well, and I would be curious to see something similar happen with this webcomic.

While there’s currently no news on The Remairred Empress drama, you still have the chance to read the story for yourself. The story is still available on Webtoon, and the series is in the process of being published by Ize Press.
