Netflix Needs To Adapt Sweet Home Creator’s Other Great Comics
With Sweet Home having just released its final season, it’s time to talk about the author’s other works. Carnby Kim, the original webcomic creator, has several series which would also make great TV series, and would actually even do better as live actions if the right actors were chosen.
The K-Dramas Are Increasing In Popularity
K-dramas with a focus on horror are incredibly popular in the West thanks to their unique story style, and their willingness to push boundaries into something new. Hellbound, Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead, and Train to Busan are just a few examples of the great horror movies and TV shows to come from Korea.
Korea is also known for its webcomics, and when looking for ideas for the next hit media, these locally-written comics are a great place to start. When it comes to Korean horror comics, Carnby Kim is a webcomic creator who should always be mentioned.
Pigpen’s Potential
Carnby Kim’s comics are often filled with unique, detailed characters and a building horror that gets stronger with every chapter. Already, one of his works, Sweet Home, was adapted and had favorable reviews. Now, it’s time for someone to jump on his other stories.
Personally, I would love an adaptation of Pigpen. It was my favorite story by Carnby Kim. Pigpen focuses on a man who wakes up on a beach. Though the island is beautiful, the fact that he can’t remember how he arrived on the island, or even who he is, dampens the mood.
As he tries to put the information together, he starts to question everything, including the family that takes him in when he first wakes up. It’s a creepy story that relies a lot on building dread until the end. With a great cast, this would make an excellent live-action adaptation.
Carnby Kim’s Horror Character Development
Bastard is another work by Carnby Kim. This one is centered around a boy and his father, a serial killer. Having no memories of his younger life, the boy, Jin, works to try and stop his father all while pretending to be a scared accomplice.
Like with Pigpen and Carnby Kim’s other works, it’s a story built upon excellent characters and growing horror, especially as Jin falls in love with a girl his father is targeting. With the right cast, creating a live-action shouldn’t be a problem at all.
Shotgun Boy Is The Most Logical Candidate
Of course, while these two are good, and definitely deserving of an adaptation, live-action or otherwise, the most obvious work by Carnby Kim to adapt next is Shotgun Boy. This is because it’s a spinoff of Sweet Home, set in the same world with the same horrors.
Instead of characters looking to build up community and survive in an apartment complex, it focuses on a boy called Gyuhwan, who is running for his life from his high school bullies. He somehow manages to stumble across a shotgun with just enough bullets to kill all the kids tormenting him.
However, everything changes when Gyuhwan returns to find monsters attacking them all. Now, he and his shotgun are the only chance for survival.
An Endless Amount Of Potential
Each and every one of Carnby Kim’s works should be adapted into K-dramas to help share the creepy tales with the world. If you want to see the first adaptation of his work, Sweet Home is available on Netflix. Webtoon is the home for all of his webcomics if you want to give them a try.
