Stranger Things Creators Producing New Netflix Horror Series With Perfect Title
Stranger Things creators, the Duffer brothers, have just been announced as executive producers of a recently announced series from streaming giant Netflix. Something Very Bad is Going to Happen is the brainchild of screenwriter Haley Z. Boston, who will also be serving the project as an executive producer and showrunner. Little is known about the concept of the upcoming horror series, though what little details have been provided frame a chilling set of events.
A New Horror Series
Something Very Bad is Going to Happen has been touted as “an atmospheric horror series” that takes place on a couple’s wedding day. The show is set to follow the pair “in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials.” If the title alone is a giveaway, it appears as though the honeymoon might be over before it starts.
From An Experienced Horror Writer
Boston brings some great writing chops to the table for the upcoming series. Prior to inking a deal to screenwrite Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, Boston provided the teleplay for a 2022 episode of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, wrote eight episodes for the crime thriller Hunters, and served as a staff writer for the mini-series Brand New Cherry Flavor.
In a statement to Netflix, the Duffer brothers appeared enthusiastic about partnering with Boston. The statement noted that they felt her writing was “twisted, terrifying, and funny,” attributes that are sure to make for a riveting new series.
More Award-Winners Behind The Camera
Something Very Bad is Going to Happen brings along Hilary Leavitt as an executive producer. Leavitt served as a consultant for the 2021 series Killing Eve and is currently working with the Duffer brothers as an executive producer for their upcoming series, The Burroughs. Leavitt and the Duffer brothers comprise the working partners of the production company Upside Down Pictures.
The Duffer Brothers Are In Good Company
Emmy-nominated producer Andrea Sperling will be joining Boston and the Duffer brothers as an executive producer. From 2014 until 2019, Sperling worked in the role of producer for the TV series Transparent, garnering nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2015 and 2016. Something Very Bad is Going to Happen won’t be her first foray into a horror thriller, either. Sperling helped produce A Murder at the End of the World in 2021, wearing the role of producer for all seven episodes of the mini-series.
The Duffer Brothers Are Looking Beyond Stranger Things
The announcement of Something Very Bad is Going to Happen coincides with other Netflix news surrounding the Duffer brothers. Yesterday it was revealed that the final season of their hit show Stranger Things is halfway through production. While no firm release date has been set for the highly anticipated series conclusion, it’s on schedule to be streaming to subscribers sometime in 2025.
The Duffer brothers have other projects than Stranger Things, and Something Very Bad is Going to Happen to keep them busy until then. This fall, their latest creation, The Boroughs, is slated to begin filming. If that weren’t enough, the pair are also beginning development on a spinoff of Stranger Things.
No date has been set for the start of production for Something Very Bad is Going to Happen.
