Netflix Losing Raunchy R-Rated Buddy Comedy Gem, Stream Before It’s Gone
Viewers are about to lose Netflix access to one of the greatest comedies of the 2000s later this month as the streaming platform pulls the 2008 film Role Models from its expansive list of offerings. Fans of the hit comedy have until July 31 to relive the awkward hilarity director and co-screen writer David Wain vaulted to audiences nearly two decades ago. Driven with the comedic timing of Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd, the film packs in great performances from a host of stars that make the film one of the most memorable ones of the decade.
Role Models
Role Models follows Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (Seann William Scott), two obnoxious energy drink salesmen whose lives are abruptly interrupted one afternoon while visiting a local high school. After an embarrassing series of events during their presentation, they leave the school in time to see that their work truck is in the process of getting towed away.
When they attempt to break the truck away from the tow vehicle, they crash into a statue and wind up getting arrested.
The Worst Mentors
Danny and Wheeler are forced to appear in court and are facing 30 days in jail. The judge is swayed by the arguments presented by Danny’s attorney/girlfriend Beth (Elizabeth Banks) and agrees to let the men perform 150 hours of community service instead of incarceration.
The salesmen are assigned as mentors in a big brother/big sister program called Sturdy Wings and subjected to the authority of its administrator, Gayle (Jane Lynch).
Decisions Are Made
Role Models sees Danny paired with the awkward and live action role playing obsessed Augie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) and Wheeler with the vulgar and breast-obsessed Ronnie (Bobb’e J. Thompson).
After struggling to find any common ground with their charges, Danny and Wheeler weigh a jail sentence against their frustrations incurred at trying to effectively guide the lives of the two young teens that seem to hate them.
Hilarious Performances All Around
Role Models gives audiences great comedic performances from the entirety of its cast. Paul Rudd, who served as one of the film’s co-writers (along with David Wain, Ken Marino, and Timothy Dowling), portrays the part of a burned out energy drink salesman to perfection.
Seann William Scott shows that he’s grown as a performer since his days of playing Stiffler in the American Pie franchise and delivers one of his greatest roles to date.
The hilarious Jane Lynch steals the show, however. Lynch’s off-putting sarcasm and cruel jabs at Wheeler and Danny help her to steal every scene that she’s in.
She plays a mean recovering addict that, while passionate about her position at Sturdy Wings, doesn’t pull any punches with any “bigs” that are assigned to her.

Role Models also features memorable performances from comedic legend Louis C.K., Armen Weitzman, Jorma Taccone, Keegan-Michael Key, and Matt Walsh. Rounding out the cast is Ken Jeong, who plays the part of the vindictive King Argotron in the live action role-playing group that Ronnie belongs to.
Netflix subscribers can catch Role Models until it leaves the service on July 31.
