The Platform 2 Returns Netflix To Sci-Fi Nightmare, See Sequel In Action
Netflix just released an official trailer for The Platform 2, along with the cast and the release date of the sequel. Needless to say, the fandom is ecstatic over the fact that the residents of The Pit are returning to the screens after five years. Even better, the movie is going to hit Netflix on October 4, just in time for the spooky season. See the trailer below:
The original Spanish-language movie, The Platform, tells us a tale of inmates of a vertical prison where the upper floors are treated better and have more access to food than the lower floors. It was a massive success, and the fans wanted more, so Netflix obliged. The upcoming The Platform 2 was officially confirmed last year, with the original director returning to the chair.
This is always a good sign, as seen from the trailer above, meaning that we’ll receive at least the same amount of fright if not more.
The Platform 2 builds on the previously established narrative that takes place in a vertical prison, whose residents switch between its many floors each month and are fed via a platform that gradually descends through the tower’s many levels.
The video opens up with a few chilling shots before offering a short exploration of the plot and characters that are central to The Platform 2. The prison called a Vertical Self-Management Center, now has a new leader imposing new and deadly rules on the Platform, while residents of The Pit now try and fight against this controversial and brutal feeding system, especially since eating from the wrong plate now essentially means a death sentence.
The Platform 2 is set to premiere on October 4, 2024 on Netflix, with the streamer officially confirming the return of Milena Smit and Hovik Keuchkerian, with the addition of two incoming cast members equally prominent in the cinematic and television industries. Namely, actors Natalia Tena of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones fame and Oscar Jaenada of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Rambo: Last Blood are set to join the previously mentioned actors. The addition of these two actors is most likely going to bring more intrigue to the narrative.
The Platform received 24 nominations and 12 awards, including Best Motion Picture, Best Feature Film, Best Special Effects, and several other awards in different categories.
For those who haven’t seen the original, The Platform 2 builds on the previously established narrative that takes place in a vertical prison, whose residents switch between its many floors each month and are fed via a platform that gradually descends through the tower’s many levels. Initially, the platform is filled with food on the top floor and gradually descends, stopping at each level for a fixed amount of time. The system is designed to lead to conflict because the residents of the top levels get their pick of the best food and eat as much as they can, while others get their leftovers.

Naturally, as the platform descends, less and less food is left on the platform, with the lowest levels getting nothing but scraps, if any are left. It’s a fantastic movie that received 24 nominations and 12 awards, including Best Motion Picture, Best Feature Film, Best Special Effects, and several other awards in different categories. So, it’s really not that surprising that Netflix decided to make a sequel; it pays to cash in on a working recipe.
