House Of The Dragon Has One Undeniable Breakout Star
Actor Ewan Mitchell is still surprised when people recognize him following his iconic appearance in the Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon. Namely, the young actor quickly became one of the prequel series’ most intriguing and fearsome characters, and people began recognizing him everywhere he went.
Recognized Without The Eyepatch
The House of the Dragon star shared that he was surprised by the fact that he was recognized by the hotel doorman during his recent trip to Manhattan. The hotel staff member asked Ewan Mitchell whether he had forgotten to pack his eyepatch when the actor arrived at the hotel. The actor himself doesn’t normally wear an eye patch since he’s neither a pirate nor missing an eye, but the fierce dragon-riding, one-eyed Aemond Targaryen does.
It would seem that Ewan Mitchell still hasn’t gotten used to strangers making the connection between him and the character he portrays in House of the Dragon, at least not in a public setting. He added that he’s most likely recognized due to his strong chin.
For those who haven’t watched House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel follows two factions vying for the Iron Throne, and Mitchell portrays Aemond Targaryen, who debuted in the latter half of the series’ first season.
The Dance Of The Dragons
The willful second son to King Viserys I Targaryen grew to covet his brother’s throne, quickly becoming one of the most intriguing and fearsome characters of the show. Canonically, Aemond becomes a notable in-universe figure due to his involvement in the complex political and familial conflicts that eventually led to the Targaryen civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons. The character rides Vhagar, the largest and the meanest of the dragons, giving off a predator vibe—even Ewan Mitchell admitted that he’s intimidated when he’s dressed up as the character.
Been Around The Block
House of the Dragon isn’t Ewan Mitchell’s first rodeo, but it might be the first that made him into an internationally recognizable star. He previously starred in a medieval series, The Lost Kingdom, between 2017 and 2022, and the BBC war drama World on Fire, which aired from 2019 to 2023, before BBC announced that it had canceled the series. He also starred in 2018’s High Life and 2023’s Saltburn films.
Acting For Over A Decade
The English actor began his acting career in 2015 upon graduating high school. Before he starred in The Lost Kingdom and later House of the Dragon, Ewan Mitchell made several appearances in short films, such as Stereotype and Fire, with a minor role in Just Charlie before appearing in High Life. He’s now recognized as one of the best castings in House of the Dragon, with his portrayal establishing Aemond as one of the most compelling characters on the show.
House Of the Dragon Season 2 Is Another Success
As for House of the Dragon, the Ewan Mitchell-starring series just recently dropped its second season to stellar reviews from the critics and the audiences, signaling yet another success for Warner Bros and its Max streaming platform. It’s not outside the realm of possibility for Ewan Mitchell, whose character is still alive in the series, to receive some an award for his portrayal.
