Tobey Maguire Under Fire As The ‘Next Leonardo DiCaprio’
Leonardo DiCaprio has been the subject of quite a few jokes over the years for his taste in women seeming to gear towards those in their early 20s despite the fact that he himself is now nearly 50. Most of it has been good-natured, but some have seriously voiced finding it odd to date with such a significant age gap. However, it is now Tobey Maguire getting some of that backlash as, much like Leonardo DiCaprio, the 49-year-old has been spotted out on an apparent date with a 20-year-old.
Tobey & Lily Chee
The woman in question in this latest story is a model named Lily Chee. Tobey Maguire has been unmarried since 2016 when he and his former wife Jennifer Meyer split up after nine years together.
Maguire and Chee appeared together at the White Party on the Fourth of July hosted by Michael Rubin, Fanatics CEO. The evening is an annual get together in New York. However, this one sighting was already enough to garner Tobey Maguire the Leonardo DiCaprio comparisons.
Fans Are Torn
The comparisons thus far are mostly just light-hearted fun. In the case of Leonardo DiCaprio, he has seemed to almost exclusively date women in their early 20s, whereas with Tobey Maguire his relationships have been much less in the public eye.
There is not even official confirmation as of yet that Maguire and Chee are actually a couple versus merely deciding to attend the event together platonically.
However, it should be noted that some fans are legitimately much more critical of DiCaprio’s preferences. Some feel there is an unfair power imbalance in a nearly 50-year-old man who is one of Hollywood’s most famous actors choosing to date a woman with much less life experience, regardless of whether she is legally an adult.
Some of that concern is now being directed at Tobey Maguire, with some fans feeling following in Leonardo DiCaprio’s footsteps is a bad precedent.
Double Standards
Others were less concerned about a potential power imbalance and more just frustrated at the double standards of society.
One commenter mentioned that it is seen as normal for Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio to enjoy dating whoever they wish but felt women do not get that same respect. “Yet people are so quick to bully any woman who dates someone 9-10 years their junior. Priyanka got bullied so bad, still does for marrying Nick. So twisted and unjust for women!”
Women do often have to hear derogatory terms related to them dating younger men, like being referred to as a cougar.
Chee Has Had Nothing Negative To Say
For Lily Chee’s part, she just seemed to have fun at the White Party. She posted a series of pictures of herself alongside friends on Instagram of them at the event, showing off their formal attire. If she has heard any of the criticism about Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio, she does not seem phased by it.

Chee has also done some acting work herself, appearing in 2016’s Daredevil series on Netflix. Her most recent role was as part of the short film Nothing, Except Everything.
So perhaps all of the commotion about Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio’s respective love lives is irrelevant. Perhaps Chee simply attended the event with Maguire as an opportunity to network with others in the industry. Until Chee or Maguire elect to officially confirm anything, nothing is certain.
