John Wick Director Remaking The Most Violent Indian Action Movie Ever
The upcoming Kill remake will bring back the 2023 Indian action film adrenaline rush that combines the basic elements of Homer’s The Odyssey with the modern flair of John Wick. In The Odyssey, our hero is returning home to his beloved wife and queen but faces many trials in doing so. The hero in the Hindi-language Kill similarly seeks to return home to reunite with his love, who was forced into a pairing with an abusive man.
The hero is a veteran of Indian special forces and possesses the many fighting skills you would associate with a highly trained and experienced commando – or John Wick.
The Bloody Indian Action Thriller
Given the storyline behind the film, a Kill remake by John Wick director Chad Stahelski is a natural pairing that has a strong potential for success. Shahelski recently announced his intention to remake the Hindi-language action film for English-speaking audiences in the United States and beyond.
Stahelski said his production company 87Eleven Entertainment will produce the English-language version of the film that opened in North American and U.K. theaters on July 4. Lionsgate will underwrite and distribute the remake.
The Original Just Debuted
When a director with a history of success like Stahelski says he wants to be involved in a Kill remake, and it hasn’t even been in domestic theaters for a week, you know the film’s basic premise must be a winner. The Indian film was directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat and has the backing of Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions for its run in U.K. and North American theaters. It’s one of the few Hindi-language films to make it to the big screen in two of the world’s oldest and largest filmmaking regions.
Keanu Could Do This One Too
Stahelski said Kill is “one of the most vivid, wild, and creative action movies I’ve seen recently,” which is high praise coming from the director of John Wick. He said the film “delivers relentless action sequences that need to be seen by as wide an audience as possible,” which is why he wants to do a Kill remake in the English language.
Whether it would star Keanu Reeves remains to be seen, but it is the kind of role in which you could see the John Wick actor excelling in the lead role. It also is the kind of film that could introduce a relative unknown to English-speaking audiences.
Killing In The Name Of
The Kill remake plot may closely follow the original, which places our hero, an Indian army commando named Amrit, on a long rail journey home to reunite with the love of his life to save her from an impossible situation in a nation where women’s rights generally don’t exist. The journey, though, is disrupted by a gang of thugs and thieves wielding knives who terrorize the train’s passengers and force Amrit to take action.
He gives better than he gets while fighting and killing those who would kill him and the innocent passengers aboard the train that would reunite Amrit with his fiance before she is forced to wed an abusive man.
A Hit With Audiences Already
The Hindi-language Kill stars Lakshya as Amrit and Tanya Maniktala as Tulika, the fiance he wants to rescue from her pending forced marriage to someone who doesn’t deserve or love her. Although the film only just hit North American and U.K. theaters, it has earned an 89 percent approval rating among critics and 85 percent among audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Stahelski has suggested he will work with the current cast for the Kill remake in English.
If done right, it should provide audiences with a feast of the kind of action that creates attention-grabbing tension in a satisfyingly entertaining manner.
