Neil Gaiman Accused Of Multiple Assault Allegations

The more recent allegation against Gaiman comes from a 23-year-old woman named Scarlett who says that she met the author in 2022 when she came to his home to work as a nanny to his child.

During that time, Scarlett and Neil Gaiman developed what both of them agree was a consensual relationship. However, according to Scarlett, during the course of this short-lived relationship, the author subjected her to degrading sexual acts which she was not okay with.

The second allegation against Neil Gaiman stems from much earlier, dating back to 2003 when a woman identified only as K says she met the author at a book signing event when she was 18.

According to K, when she turned 20, she entered into a relationship with Gaiman that became sexual. She alleges that he wound up sexually interacting with her in ways that were painful and unwanted.

In regards to the allegations stemming from K, Neil Gaiman postulates that she is making the claims against him out of feelings of regret. He also states that she has a medical condition that causes her to develop false memories. It is unclear if that latter detail has any veracity to it.

With the 2022 complaint, the matter was actually taken to the New Zealand police at the time. Neil Gaiman claims he offered to cooperate with the police but that they elected that there was no need, which Gaiman says demonstrates how little substance the police saw in the allegations.

On their end, the New Zealand police stated that they made a “number of attempts to speak to key people as part of this investigation and those efforts remain ongoing.”

They clarified that progress of the investigation is based on “a number of factors to take into consideration with this case, including location of all parties.” Whether the police will attempt to have any conversation with Neil Gaiman at this point is indeterminate.

This story is still developing so more details are sure to come out from all sides soon, but the story so far has already sent shockwaves through the literary community.

Neil Gaiman is one of the most beloved and prolific authors currently alive. The 63-year-old is a bestselling author and has written countless stories that have already been deemed classics, such as American Gods, The Graveyard Book, and Coraline. He also co-wrote Good Omens with the late Terry Pratchett.

Prior to this, the author was most recently in the news regarding season two of the on-screen adaption of his story The Sandman having more of its upcoming cast be revealed.

It remains to be seen what will happen with the show at this juncture amidst its heavy ties to Neil Gaiman. Based on how prior entertainment projects have handled such issues, it might be that production will be suspended pending results of further investigation of the situation.
