Netflix Gets Ben Affleck Matt Damon Thriller Team-Up
Netflix has scored some major stars for an upcoming project, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. The thriller, which is titled RIP, will bring the actors together, but little else is known about the film. The highly anticipated movie is also produced by its A-list actors, who co-own the production company responsible for RIP.
The Boys Are Back
RIP is shrouded in mystery, with little known about the Netflix movie outside of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s involvement. RIP will be a crime thriller directed by Joe Carnahan, but no plot details have been revealed yet. The film is expected to start shooting in the Fall of 2024.
Despite the lack of details, there is hype around the Netflix movie because it will feature Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, two actors with a long history of performing together. The two first appeared together as uncredited extras in Field of Dreams, then went on to star in eight more movies. They’ve co-starred in everything from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back to The Last Duel.
Decades Of Working Together
The duo were heavily associated with each other in the 1990s and 2000s due to their appearances in Good Will Hunting and several Kevin Smith movies. After a nearly 20-year gap, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reunited in 2019 for Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, before recently appearing in The Last Dule and Air together. RIP will allow Netflix to cash in on the revival of the popular acting duo’s relationship.
Produced By Their Joint Company
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are also heavily involved behind the scenes of the upcoming Netflix thriller. The movie is being produced by Artists Equity, the production company co-founded by the actors that has produced four films since it was founded in 2022. RIP is one of two movies in production for the company, alongside Animals.
Affleck’s Award-Winning Career
While the history between the two actors is a huge selling point, Ben Affleck’s appearance in a Netflix movie would be a huge win for the streaming company, no matter what. The actor has been part of the A-list since the 90s, appearing in dozens of major blockbusters, including Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, and Batman v. Superman. He’s been highly praised as an actor, director, and writer, winning Best Picture for Argo and Best Screenplay for Good Will Hunting which he co-wrote with Damon.
Matt Damon Keeps Getting Rescued
Matt Damon would also be a major get for a Netflix movie, even without the involvement of Ben Affleck. He has an extensive list of blockbusters, including Saving Private Ryan, The Departed, True Grit, and The Martian. His accolades as an actor are numerous, including a pair of Best Actor nominations and a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Oscars.
A Major Win For Netflix
While not every Netflix movie captures the public’s attention, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon again joining forces is sure to make RIP stand out for the streamer. With so little information available, it’s hard to say if that attention will translate into a great movie, but it will almost certainly result in a larger audience tuning in on release. With both stars so heavily involved, RIP could be a pivotal moment in the acting duo’s continued legacy.
