Jensen Ackles Gets First Lead Role After Supernatural

Countdown comes from Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med producer Derek Haas and the first season will have 13 episodes. Countdown will continue Jensen Ackles’ collaboration with Prime Video after he appeared in the most recent season of the streamers’ popular series The Boys.

Ackles stole the screen as the brutal, backwards, and out-of-time Soldier Boy, who the titular group attempts to recruit to take out Homelander for good.

While Jensen Ackles hasn’t had a leading role since leaving Supernatural, he’s still kept plenty busy. The actor brought the world of Supernatural back to TV with The Winchesters, a prequel that followed Dean and Sam’s parents.

Along with narrating the series as Dean, Ackles also produced the show. He also directed an episode of Walker, which stars his Supernatural co-star, Jared Padalecki.

Along with flexing his superhero muscles as the decidedly unheroic Soldier Boy in The Boys, Jensen Ackles has also been flexing his superhero voice as the much more heroic Batman in several animated projects.

Since Supernatural ended, Ackles has voiced Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Long Halloween, The Long Halloween Part Two, Legion of Super-Heroes, Justice League: Warworld, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part One, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Two, and the upcoming Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Three.

Ackles’ performance as Batman has been well-received by fans, and many are calling for him to be cast in James Gunn’s upcoming DCU.

Jensen Ackles’ career as Dean Winchester has been a long one, first appearing in the series way back in 2005. The series followed Ackles as Dean and Padalecki as Sam Winchester, two brothers who are hunters of the supernatural. The series ran for a whopping 15 seasons and 327 episodes, so it was no surprise when the cast was ready to wrap things up and bring the series to a satisfying close in 2020.

Now both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are freed up to do some new things with their careers. Padalecki has been staying busy with his Walker-related projects, while Ackles has taken a more varied approach with The Boys, the voice roles, and other projects.

For now, there’s not an official release date for Countdown, so we’ll just have to wait until more news about the project.
