The Star Trek: Discovery Finale Easter Egg That Shocked Its Star
The Star Trek: Discovery series finale was full of many great Easter eggs that delighted fans of this classic franchise. However, one of the props that appeared in this episode appealed to the show’s star even more than it did to the fandom. In a recent interview, Captain Burnham actor and Star Trek: Discovery lead Sonequa Martin-Green revealed that her favorite prop from the finale was the Geordi La Forge VISOR in Dr. Kovich’s office, saying that it made her “whole childhood” come back to her.
Chateau Picard And La Forge’s VISOR
If you’ve already watched the Star Trek: Discovery finale (and if not, what are you waiting for?), you know that Geordi La Forge’s VISOR is only one of several Easter eggs in Kovich’s office. The mysterious Federation operative (revealed in this episode to secretly be Agent Daniels from Enterprise) also had Captain Sisko’s baseball and a bottle of Chateau Picard. Each of these items resonated with countless fans, but Martin-Green was clear that it was the VISOR that delighted her the most.
The reason for her fan-girl delight is simple: Sonequa Martin-Green is a fan of this franchise from way back. As the Independent reports, she loved The Original Series growing up, and her favorite character in that classic show was Spock. “I loved what Leonard Nimoy did,” she gushed.
Martin-Green’s Love For The Next Generation
We knew from social media alone that this Star Trek: Discovery star is a big fan of The Next Generation, the show that made Geordi La Forge such a beloved character. When Patrick Stewart announced that he would be returning to play Captain Picard again, Martin-Green wasted no time sharing a picture she had taken with the TNG star to her Instagram account.
In that post, she writes, “I’ve looked to him over the years for creative education, inspiration and guidance” and told the actor how she and the rest of the Discovery cast “stand on your shoulders…and what broad shoulders they are.”
Working Under Johnathan Frake’s Direction
Long story not very short, Martin-Green was into this franchise long before she was cast in Star Trek: Discovery, and seeing Geordi’s VISOR made her feel connected with her childhood self’s love of TNG. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time this has happened. That’s because Riker actor Jonathan Frakes has now directed a number of Discovery episodes, giving Martin-Green time to bond with one of her favorite actors.
Passing Of The Torch
In an old interview with StarTrek.com, Sonequa Martin-Green mentioned Jonathan Frakes directing episodes and how much he made her feel like she was now part of “the family.” She credits him for “welcoming us with open arms” and sending a message to the new cast that “We welcome you, we love you, we support you,” noting how the support of this Trek veteran “means everything” to her.
Frakes coming onboard was like a passing of the torch, and Star Trek: Discovery showing Geordi’s VISOR was a further reminder of the powerful legacy that Discovery has been carrying these last few years.
Secret VISOR Shenanigans?
