The Best Show You Aren’t Watching Gets Season 4
If you haven’t seen the fantastic comedy series Hacks, now is the best time to check it out because it just got renewed for Season 4 at Max. The series stars Jean Smart as Deborah Vance, a legendary Las Vegas comedian who hires a down-on-her-luck comedy writer, Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder), to help her freshen up her act and avoid losing her Vegas residency. The two form a friendship as Ava helps Deborah push her act to new heights and Deborah helps Ava take on some of her personal issues.
The Cast
The series also stars Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Megan Stalter, Paul W. Downs, Mark Indelicato, Rose Abdoo, Kaitlin Olson, and more.
The show also knows how to bring in the guest stars, with Season 3 featuring appearances from Helen Hunt, Christina Hendricks, Christopher Lloyd, Dan Bucatinsky, George Wallace, Aristotle Athari, J. Smith-Cameron, and Tony Goldwyn. Undoubtedly, Hacks will announce some great guest stars for Season 4 soon enough.
The People Behind The Camera
Hacks Season 4 is created by Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky, who also serve as showrunners. Downs and Aniello executive produce under their Paulilu banner while Statsky produces via First Thought Productions. Michael Schur for Fremulon, David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment, and Morgan Sackett also executive produce.
An Emmy Magnet
Hacks is definitely one of the most underrated comedies on TV right now, and more people should check it out while we wait for Season 4.
The show has gotten plenty of critical attention, as it has won Primetime Emmy Awards in categories like Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Directing, and Outstanding Lead Actress for Smart. The series has been going steady since its debut in June 2021, and it’s good to see that it’s been getting enough viewer numbers to get a fourth- season renewal.
A Perfect Balance Of Drama And Comedy
Of course, streaming on Max is never safe for any show, no matter how good or critically acclaimed, so hopefully, Hacks will be able to continue on after Season 4 and beyond.
The Season 3 finale saw Deborah find success with a new gig, albeit while creating a rift between her and Ava. The series deftly has balanced comedy and drama in equal measure, and the relationships between the characters, along with the performances, have kept fans compelled throughout the show’s run.
Critical Acclaim
Without a dip in quality so far, Hacks continues to be one of the best comedies, and it seems likely that Season 4 will keep that quality going. The series has near-unanimous praise on Rotten Tomatoes, with Season 1 and Season 2 both having 100 percent from critics, while the third season still has an incredibly high 97 percent.
Both Smart and Hannah Einbinder could carry the show on their own, but the incredible cast of guest stars and supporting characters only helps to elevate it even further.
So, if you’re a fan of dramedies, specifically ones that focus on the industry of comedy itself, you should check out Hacks ahead of Season 4. The series is currently streaming on Max. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated on more news about the fourth season as it gets closer.
