Taylor Swift Can Play A Better Marvel Character Than Dazzler In Deadpool & Wolverine

There’s a rumor that Taylor Swift might be making a cameo in Marvel’s Deadpool and Wolverine. The overwhelming consensus is that if T-Swift does make an appearance, it will most likely be as the X-Men member Dazzler. While we have no doubt that Taylor could crush it as the mutant singer who turns sound into light, we actually hope she’s playing someone else in Deadpool and Wolverine. Namely, Lila Cheney, Marvel’s other mutant rockstar.

Dazzler Doesn’t Make Sense

The problem with Taylor Swift being the one to introduce Dazzler into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that it’s unlikely she’d commit to further appearances.

Any role that features the biggest pop star in the world is most likely going to be a fun, breezy cameo, and honestly, Dazzler deserves better.

Dazzler might not be a household name these days, but she’s a big deal in the Marvel universe. A big enough deal that she beat out more popular mutants like Gambit and Beast for a spot on the 1992 X-Men arcade game roster.

Would Be A Waste Of The Character

Basically, Dazzler has been a big enough part of several important X-Men storylines that it would be foolish to waste the character on a five-minute Taylor Swift cameo just to give Marvel a boost in that coveted Swiftie demographic.

We saw, for instance, how badly Deadpool 2 treated Dazzler’s canonical son, Shatterstar. The character was brought in for the X-Force sequence, in which a bunch of mutants died in humorous ways. A classic Marvel character and founding member of X-Force reduced to a gag appearance.

Taylor Swift As Lila Cheney

But if Ryan Reynolds was deadset on having Taylor Swift appear in her first Marvel movie as a musician, there’s a way to do it without wasting Dazzler. Have her play, Lila Cheney. For those not deeply entrenched in obscure X-Men lore, Lila Cheney is a mutant rockstar with the power to teleport.

Lila is such a famous act that one planet can’t contain her. Her tours regularly take her across the entire galaxy.

While Taylor Swift may be confined to Earth—so far—if there was a real-life equivalent of a star so big her music was number one on several different planets in the Marvel universe, it would be her.

Lila Cheney Often Not On Earth

Plus, unlike Dazzler, Lila is often off-world, meaning a one-and-done from Taylor Swift wouldn’t raise too many questions.

Don’t get us wrong, Taylor Swift could absolutely nail either of Marvel’s musical mutants. It’s just that unless she can commit to future movies, we would prefer she take the character whose disappearance after five minutes wouldn’t harm the X-Men further down the line. In our humble opinion, that would mean Lila Cheney over Dazzler.

Different Versions Of The Character?

Of course, given the multiversal nature of Deadpool and Wolverine, it’s possible that Taylor Swift could play one version of Dazzler with the main Marvel Cinematic Universe Dazzler showing up as someone else later.

The studio did something similar with the Mr. Fantastic cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The problem is that it can get confusing.

Just Avoid The Confusion

There are probably casual Marvel fans scratching their heads right now, wondering how Pedro Pascal is playing Reed Richards in the new Fantastic Four movie when Marvel already cast John Krasinski in the role.

A similar thing could happen if Taylor Swift plays Dazzler in Deadpool only to have Marvel choose a different actor later.

All that confusion could be avoided by having Tay Tay put on a black wig and strut around as the Joan Jett homage Lila Cheney. Hopefully, Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Feige were smart enough to come to the same conclusion.
