The Best Mystery Comedy Series In Years Gets New Season, See The Bumbling Detective Delight In Action
The first trailer for Only Murders in the Building Season 4 debuted during Disney’s upfront presentation, along with its August 27 release date on Hulu. The new 90-second clip sees Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) dealing with the aftermath of the Season 3 finale in which Charles’ stunt double and friend Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch) was killed.
“Questioning whether she or Charles was the intended victim, their investigation leads them all the way to Los Angeles where a Hollywood studio is readying a film about the Only Murders podcast,” the official logline reads. As the podcasters head back to New York, they find themselves on an even more epic adventure while exploring the twisted lives of the Arconia’s residents.
The trailer also introduces the impressive lineup of guest stars expected to appear in Only Murders in the Building Season 4. The list includes Melissa McCarthy, Eugene Levy, Molly Shannon, Zach Galifianakis, and Richard Kind, alongside Eva Longoria from Desperate Housewives and Kumail Nanjiani from Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, among others.
Big name guest stars from past seasons include Sting, Paul Rudd, Amy Schumer, Tina Fey, and Meryl Streep.
Academy Award winner Meryl Streep will reprise her role as Loretta Durkin following her introduction in the previous season. Widely considered the most significant addition to Only Murders in the Building so far, Streep explained her reason for joining the show during the FYC event in Los Angeles in March 2024, expressing that she was merely “a huge fan” and wanted to “have some fun.”
Only Murders in the Building Season 4, taking the story to Los Angeles, was previously announced by Since Disney executive Craig Erwich in February. However, the trailer sheds light on why. A Hollywood studio wants to turn Charles, Oliver, and Mabel’s podcast into a movie. Charles, a former actor on a hit crime show, and Oliver, a struggling Broadway director, are excited about the opportunity.
Only Murders in the Building was renewed for Season 4 in October 2023.
However, the pair are not met with the respect they believe they deserve. The Only Murders in the Building trailer also gives viewers a sneak peek at the new suspects in Season 4, such as Shannon, who portrays a “high-powered LA businesswoman pulled into the investigation in New York.” While the roles of the other cast members remain undisclosed, some are likely to be suspects in Sazz’s murder.
Judging by the trailer, Only Murders in the Building Season 4 will be the most fun-filled outing for the loveable trio to date. Created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, the mystery comedy-drama premiered on Hulu in August 2021. The story revolves around Charles, Oliver, and Mabel, who share a fascination with true crime.
When Tim Kono is murdered in their Upper West Side apartment building, the trio ends up investigating while producing a podcast about their findings. In Season 2, the trio delves into the homicide case involving the apartment’s board president, Bunny Folger. Season 3 focuses on unraveling the mystery surrounding the death of A-list movie star Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd).
Season 4 of Only Murders in the Building premieres on Hulu on August 27.
Since its debut, Only Murders in the Building has received critical acclaim for its comedic take on crime fiction and the performances of its cast.
