Steve Buscemi Attacked On Streets Of New York City
Actor Steve Buscemi was attacked on the streets of New York City. His publicist addressed the assault, which took place in midtown Manhattan, in a statement to People, saying that the 66-year-old was “another victim of a random act of violence in the city.” The news comes amid a surge in violent street attacks, with multiple incidents reported in various parts of the city.
The Attack
Police reported that Steve Buscemi was strolling in the Kips Bay neighborhood around 11:50 a.m. on May 8 in front of 369 Third Ave when an unfamiliar individual unexpectedly struck him in the face. As a result of the attack, the actor’s left eye swelled severely, and he was transported to Bellevue Hospital. The assailant promptly fled the scene and is still at large.
According to the police report, the assailant was last seen wearing a baseball cap, a blue T-shirt, black pants, and white sneakers. Steve Buscemi addressed the attack via his publicist, saying that while he “appreciates everyone’s well wishes,” the actor is “incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of New York.”
Series Of Celebrity Attacks
The attack on Steve Buscemi comes after a separate incident in which Boardwalk actor Michael Stuhlbarg was struck with a rock in Manhattan on March 31. Following the assault, 27-year-old Xavier Israel was apprehended. Other celebrities who have been victims of similar random attacks in recent years include Rick Moranis and Bethenny Frankel.

Moranis, famous for his roles in Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, was attacked near Central Park in 2020. His assailant, Marquis Ventura, pled guilty to assault charges and received a two-year prison sentence. Frankel detailed her attack in a TikTok video, explaining that as she was exiting a small bakery on the Upper West Side when a homeless man struck her in the face.

The attack on Steve Buscemi comes almost a month after he was cast in a major role in the hit Netflix series Wednesday. The actor is set to play the new principal of Nevermore Academy in the highly anticipated second season of the show, which sees Jenna Ortega reprise her role as the popular titular character. Filming for Wednesday Season 2 has officially started in Ireland.
