Demon Slayer Season 4 Anime Stumbles From The Start
Demon Slayer Season 4 episode one was released on Crunchyroll on Sunday, May 12, and I wasted no time watching it. While I already knew this 48-minute episode would be mostly filler, I was eager to see how the first episode would introduce the new season. Here are my thoughts, with some very mild spoilers on the disappointing new episode.
The First Episode Starts With A Bang
The first episode of Demon Slayer Season 4 doesn’t play around, throwing you straight into the action. The Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa, and the Serpent Hashira, Obanai Iguro, get their time to shine as they fight a large group of demons.
After that, the episode turns rather mild. You get the chance to see all of the main characters and how they’re doing after their last fight. The Hashira meet to talk and confirm the details of the fight while the demon slayers recover.
Focusing On The Hashira
The potential for Demon Slayer Season 4 seems pretty high. I’m excited to see more about the Hashira, especially the ones we haven’t seen fight yet. The little taste of a fight with Sanemi and Obanai kept me interested throughout the rest of the episode and made me eager to see what else they could do and the powers of the Stone Hashira, who also hasn’t had much screen time.
There was a lot of focus on the Hashira during this episode, and their next steps in the first episode of Demon Slayer Season 4. Fans had the chance to learn a little more about the marks that appeared on some of the Hashira during the Demon Slayer Season 3 at the very end. There was a bit more information about the leader of the Hashira, Kagaya Ubuyashiki.
Mostly Filler
However, this episode wasn’t all that great. In addition to not providing a lot of new information from the movie, most of the story after the initial fight scene was just filler, recaps, and exposition. We got to see all of the characters come together and talk about what happened in the swordsmith village and how they’re recovering.
There were some funny moments that the show is known for, especially between Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko. There were actually very few scenes with these four, though, since the episode was trying to focus on every character.
A Skippable Episode
If you have watched the movie, and you’re thinking about skipping the first episode of Demon Slayer Season 4, you can probably do so without missing anything interesting or important. I would recommend maybe watching the first few minutes, to see the fight scene between the Hashira and demons, but other than that, you can probably wait until episode two of Demon Slayer Season 4 comes out.

REVIEW SCORE
While only the first episode is out so far, Demon Slayer Season 4 is set to be a short season. While no exact number of episodes has been revealed, it appears that it will be somewhere between five and eight episodes. This isn’t entirely unexpected, considering this manga arc only encompassed nine chapters, but it will be interesting to see how they make a full season out of it.
If you haven’t seen the movie, or want to watch the first episode, Demon Slayer Season 4, as well as all the other seasons, are on Crunchyroll to watch.
