Ted Season 2 Is Actually Happening
Peacock just greenlit the production of Ted Season 2, a prequel series to Seth McFarlane’s Ted movie franchise about a rather unhinged living, walking, talking teddy bear. However, the decision to produce Season 2 wasn’t as straightforward as it might seem, despite the overwhelming success of Season 1 of the series.
Originally Billed As An Event Series
For those who aren’t in the know, the first seasons of Ted were billed as a seven-episode event series, but its overwhelming success propelled it to the top of Peacock’s offering, becoming one the streamer’s most-watched original series to date, and the number one comedy series in the US. In fact, it was the most-watched original series for two consecutive months, which probably triggered the talks about Ted Season 2 at Peacock.
It Isn’t Cheap To Make
The decision to produce Ted Season 2 wasn’t an easy one; the comedy show relies on both live-action and heavy amounts of CGI effects, which make it exorbitantly expensive to produce, and some estimates put the ball-park figure near a $10 million mark per episode. Not only that, but live-action/CGI hybrids also take a long time to produce, and we’re not talking about animation alone; there’s plenty of prep and shoots to get things right for the audiences.
The Cast
Still, the series is a massive win for Peacock, and the streamer obviously strives to keep the streak going, which, paired with the first season’s massive success, most likely prompted the talks about Ted Season 2. Ted Season 2 is set in 1993, with Ted’s fame now fading, so he’s living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts, with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett, portrayed by Max Burkholder. This also includes John’s parents, Matty and Susan, portrayed by Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach, respectively. Oh, and the legendary Ian McKellen serves as the series’ narrator.
The Movie
Ted Season 2 is the continuation of the series that serves as the prequel to the 2012 hit movie. MacFarlane serves as the series’ executive producer, writer, and co-showrunner, with Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh serving the same roles on the show. Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Jason Clark, and Aimee Carlson of MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door Productions executive produce as well. The original Ted was Seth MacFarlane‘s feature-length directorial debut that turned out to be a massive hit among the audiences.
The movie made a few bucks shy of $550 million against its $65 million budget, becoming the highest-grossing comedy movie of 2012 and the second highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time, second only to The Hangover Part II. Its success launched a franchise, with a sequel that launched in 2015, and a prequel television series, which is now scheduled to receive a second season. Unfortunately, the details surrounding Ted Season 2 still remain scarce; it will most probably pick up where Season One ended, but the exact release date still remains unknown.
Release Date
Considering the price tag and the time resources necessary to produce such a series, we’re most likely looking for a 2025 release for Ted Season 2 at the latest.
