The Superhero Sci-Fi Action Epic That Deserves A TV Series

Video game adaptations are actually good nowadays, so it stands to reason that fans would want to see their favorite video games hit the big (or small) screen. One franchise that definitely deserves the TV adaptation treatment at some point is Sucker Punch’s Infamous series. As a double-bonus, it also is a superhero (or anti-hero) tale, so whatever streamer picked it up could hit two hot genres at once.

Sucker Punch’s Infamous

This video game franchise began in 2009 with Infamous, which was developed by Sucker Punch, who was best known for the Sly Cooper franchise at the time (which should also get an animated adaptation ASAP). Infamous followed gruff bike courier Cole McGrath, who gains electrical superpowers after surviving a massive explosion.

In the wake of the explosion, the government quarantines the city, leading to the rise of various local criminal organizations trying to take advantage of the chaos.

Superhero Or Anti-Hero

As Cole, players have the choice to be a superhero or an anti-hero, with your choices affecting your powers and the story. Infamous was a well-reviewed franchise and was low-key one of the best games of the PS3 era, and the sequel was equally entertaining. It would definitely be easy to imagine a successful TV adaptation that follows Cole’s story.

Series Could Go Different Directions

For one, the TV show could go in a few directions, thanks to the branching story paths of the game’s narrative.

The TV could even opt to go its own way, changing the possible endings that you get if you play through Cole’s story in both Infamous and Infamous 2. The first game also has a great twist, which would definitely play well in a TV format.

Grittier Than Standard Superheroes

And although the superhero genre is getting a bit stale at this point, the Infamous franchise is definitely a unique superpowered tale, and different enough from the typical fare that it could easily stand out from other superhero shows.

It’s a bit grittier and more adult than your typical superhero story and would fall more into the vein of shows like Invincible or the Netflix Daredevil series. Also, there’s quite a bit of potential for the series to expand out with spin-offs, as the third game in the series, Infamous: Second Son, follows a completely new protagonist after Cole’s story is complete.

A Movie Announced In 2009

Interestingly enough, there was actually an Infamous movie announced a long time ago. In 2009, Sony hired screenwriter Sheldon Turner to adapt it into a feature film with Ari and Avi Arad producing. There have been zero updates about that film since.

While Infamous could work in a film format, it would definitely be better suited to a couple of seasons of TV. But film or TV, fans would definitely be excited to see this franchise brought back in any form.

Also, the success of a TV show would hopefully get the video game franchise back on track since we haven’t seen a new game since Second Son and its expansion, First Light, in 2014.

Getting Infamous Back On Track

In the meantime, Sucker Punch has another one of its games getting a film adaptation with Ghost of Tsushima. If that film finds success, maybe the studios would get interested in adapting some of Sucker Punch’s other games. We can only hope at this point.
