Eddie Murphy Movie Suffers Tragic Accident, Multiple Crew Members Injured
Tragedy has struck the set of Eddie Murphy’s latest project as it’s been reported that a handful of crew members on the actor and comedian’s heist comedy, The Pickup, were injured in Atlanta. The accident took place on April 20, with a spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios coming forward with the information, telling the press that one of the production’s action sequences “did not go as planned,” with numerous team members sustaining injuries. Sending their thoughts to those affected, the spokesperson said they were “gathering facts” and determining what went wrong.
Eddie Murphy Not Injured
The statement was quick to point out that the safety team was on their A-game and that the “precautions were reviewed prior to and monitored during the shoot.” Whatever the stunt was, it was reported that the film’s leading cast, which includes Eddie Murphy, Keke Palmer, and Pete Davidson, were not on set when the accident went down.
In the wake of the Rust tragedy, which claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and recently saw armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed given prison time for her negligence, safety on set has taken the front seat of the conversation, with the team behind The Pickup likely anxious to be as upfront as possible.
The Pickup Also Stars Pete Davidson And Keke Palmer
There isn’t much information surrounding The Pickup by way of plot, but right now, we know that the primary protagonist, played by Eddie Murphy, finds himself caught up in a deadly heist while trying to impress and seduce a woman. Along with Murphy, Pete Davidson (The King of Staten Island), and Keke Palmer (Nope), A Star Is Born’s Andrew Dice Clay also joins the ensemble. The film is under the direction of Barbershop, Ride Along, and Fantastic Four director, Tim Story, and was one of the hottest titles to be picked up last year.
Working On Another Beverly Hills Cop Movie
While fans are waiting patiently to see Eddie Murphy alongside fellow all-stars in The Pickup, this year, the comedy legend will be partnering with Netflix to welcome the next installment of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise. The first title in the film series arrived in 1984 and was a pivotal step in Murphy’s career, helping him bridge the gap between stand-up comedian and film star. It would quickly land a sequel just a few years later, with a third movie coming ten years after the first one dropped.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F
Now, three decades after the third film, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F will pick up the story with the titular character (played by Eddie Murphy) returning to Beverly Hills once again to save his daughter from some criminals who plan to do her harm.
There will be a lot of familiar faces in the feature as Axel and his kiddo carry out their plan with actors like Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, and John Ashton all reprising their roles from the films of yesteryear. Joining the big happy family are names including Taylour Paige, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Kevin Bacon – setting the project up to be one of the hottest titles for the streamer in 2024.
No Release Date Yet For The Pickup
For now, stay tuned for more information surrounding Eddie Murphy’s latest movie, The Pickup. We’re sending all of our healing vibes out to those in the crew affected by the accident over the weekend and wish them a speedy recovery.
