Sylvester Stallone’s Biggest Embarrassment Gets Huge Upgrade

Sylvester Stallone made some of the best films in his career in the Rocky franchise, along with some of the worst. In any case, there are plenty of people who are completionists when it comes to collecting physical media, so those who have been waiting for 4K Blu-ray releases of Rocky V and Rocky Balboa can finally add them to their collections. Both films are now available for pre-order.

The Worst Get The Best Format

The 4K Blu-rays of Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky V and Rocky Balboa both contain the movie in 4K, standard Blu-ray with digital download. They also include steelbook cases to make them look even better with your collection. The Rocky Balboa Blu-ray specifically includes discs for the original theatrical release and the extended director’s cut.

Available For Preoder

You can preorder Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky V, which sees Rocky trying to train a new fighter after losing all of his money on real estate deals. However, this new fighter decided to go to a competitor instead, leading Rocky to have to fight his mentee in a street fight. If this description doesn’t sound particularly appealing, you wouldn’t be alone as this is considered one of the worst films in the franchise (along with one of Stallone’s worst efforts in general).

Rocky Balboa

After the abysmal failure of the fifth film, Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa goes down a little easier. This film takes place 15 years after the fifth film and sees Rocky, now 60 years old, taking on the current heavyweight title holder for charity. While this may seem a bit ridiculous of a story back in 2006, silly real-life events like the upcoming Mike Tyson and Jake Paul fight prove that the concept isn’t as unrealistic as we thought.

Creed

While Sylvester Stallone’s final two Rocky films never ended up reaching the heights of their predecessors, the franchise made the wise decision to pivot to a new protagonist in 2015 with Creed. Creed followed Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Johnson, the son of the late Apollo Creed (played in the Rocky films by the late Carl Weathers). Stallone returned to the role of Rocky for the film to train Adonis, though the plot of the film fortunately didn’t end with Rocky battling yet another protege in a street fight.

Creed was an unmitigated success and became a franchise in its own right with Creed II and last year’s Creed III. Though Sylvester Stallone would play Rocky again in the second film, he opted to step back and remain on as a producer in Creed III, allowing Michael B. Jordan to fully take the torch for the franchise. Jordan also directed the most recent film, taking over from Ryan Coogler for the first film and Steven Caple Jr. for the second.

Completists, Order It Now

Needless to say, the Rocky franchise is in a good place right now, and the bad taste of Rocky V and Rocky Balboa is pretty much gone. This makes it a perfect time to fill out your collection and make sure you have all of the Rocky and Creed films in 4K UHD glory. There are sure to be more Creed films to come too, so now is as good of time as ever to catch up on the franchise in the best format possible.
