The Netflix Futuristic Sci-Fi Godzilla Anime You Have To Watch

Godzilla Singular Point is set in Nigashio City in 2030, where engineer Yun Arikawa, from the neighborhood’s “do-it-all” store, investigates strange occurrences inside a deserted mansion.

Meanwhile, Mei Kamino, a graduate student who studies imaginary creatures, follows the strange signals coming from the former administrative building of the Tsuguno district.

Although Yun and Mei are investigating different things in two separate locations, they both hear the same haunting melody.

Drawn together by this shared mystery, they decide to find and confront the dangerous threat looming over the planet. As their investigation continues, the pair stumbles upon the Naratake AI and a link to alien activity.

During a festival, engineer Goro Otaki launches his latest creation, a giant robot called Jet Jaguar. However, chaos ensues in Godzilla Singular Point when a pterosaur-like monster called Rodan appears. The team battles Rodan, learning that it was drawn to the city by the mysterious broadcast. More Rodans appear, causing widespread panic.

The situation in Godzilla Singular Point slowly worsens. Rodans descend on Japan while other monsters like Anguirus appear across the globe.

As a result, the team races against time to understand the origins of the creatures and the source of the broadcast. They soon find ancient prophecies that reveal the existence of a mythical beast called Godzilla, prophesied to bring about the end of the world.

Mei and her companions travel to India to get answers from Ashihara’s research and the Shiva Consortium’s facility.

With the threat of Godzilla and the a catastrophe on the cards, they must confront the truth behind the monsters and the secrets hidden within the Singular Points. As the final battle looms, an upgraded Jet Jaguar prepares to face off against Godzilla.

Godzilla Singular Point belongs to the Godzilla franchise, showcasing monsters from its Showa era. The series received mixed reviews from viewers and critics, with some finding the plot convoluted and the story buried under technical jargon.

However, it did earn some praise for its vibrant animation that captures the essence of Godzilla’s legacy.

Despite its mixed reception, Godzilla Singular Point earned several accolades, such as the VFX-Japan Awards’ “Excellence” and “Best” awards in the Television/Distribution Program category.

The Godzilla franchise began in 1954 with the release of the original film, Godzilla, directed by Ishiro Honda, from a script he co-wrote with Eiji Tsuburaya. Godzilla Singular Point was released on DVD and Blu-ray in Japan across three volumes between August and October 2021. The show also spawned Bandai soft vinyl action figures which formed part of the Movie Monster series toy line. The first figures featured Jet Jaguar and Godzilla in his Ultima form. A vinyl figure of Godzilla in his Aquatilis form was also released.
