Minecraft Set Photos Reveal First Look At Live-Action Film
Minecraft, a movie based on a sandbox-style video game, is set to come out in 2025. Very little information about the movie has come out. However, thanks to an X user who ended up near the filming site, fans now have some images of props used during filming.
The World Of Minecraft Comes To Life In Set Photos
X user Josh_Space shared a series of tweets with photos of set props for the Minecraft movie. In the first set of images, you can see Minecraft’s staple blocky trees. Another shows part of a rock wall in all of its square glory.
The images don’t reveal much in terms of the plot of the movie or what to expect. However, they do show that the scenes in Minecraft are likely to be blocky, much like the video game the movie is based on. This is good news for fans, as it shows that the movie will likely closely represent the game, instead of just vaguely representing it and sharing the Minecraft name.
Minecraft Is One Of The Most Popular Games On The Planet
Minecraft was first released in 2011 and developed by Mojang Studios. It was so popular that it holds the record for being the second-highest-selling game of all time, with over 300 million copies sold in 2023.
The movie is directed by Jared Hess (Nacho Libre, Napoleon Dynamite), produced by Legendary Pictures, Mojang, and Vertigo Entertainment and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Originally, it was meant to be directed by Shawn Levy (Free Guy), but he ran into some disagreements about his storyline. The original developers felt that the story didn’t fit the game and didn’t want to move forward.
The Star-Studded Cast
There are some big names appearing in Minecraft, including Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Danielle Brooks (Peacemaker), Emma Myers (Wednesday, Family Switch), Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie), Jack Black (School of Rock), Sebastian Eugene Hansen (Lisey’s Story), and Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows). Though it’s known these actors will be in the movie, there is no information on the roles they will be playing. There is a rumor that Steve, the main character, will be played by Jack Black.
Minecraft Movie Details Still Heavily Under Wraps
Besides this little tidbit and the name of the actors, not a lot of information about the Minecraft movie has been released yet. The director says he is working hard trying to direct a movie that doesn’t have a defined story. He wants it to be fun and ridiculous, while also avoiding an “ugly Sonic situation.”
The storyline for Minecraft is simple and short. “The malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, prompting a young girl and her group of unlikely adventurers to set out to save the Overworld.”
When Does The Film Release?
The Minecraft movie is set to release almost exactly a year from now, on April 4, 2025.
