Back by popular demand after a 36-year absence from the big screen, Beetlejuice has returned to raise hell. Talks of a sequel to the cult classic Beetlejuice movie have been floating around for decades, but the time has finally come. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is finished, The release date is September 6, 2024, and the first official teaser trailer dropped today.
Wednesday star Jenna Ortega also joins the cast of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid.
Tim Burton returns as director of the sequel, and the writing team of Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (writers of the hit series Wednesday) are responsible for the screenplay. The sequel, officially titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, features Winona Ryder reprising her role as Lydia Deetz, Catherine O’Hara returning to play Delia Deetz, and Michael Keaton returns to play the lead geist, Beetlejuice.
Wednesday star Jenna Ortega also joins the cast of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid. Additionally, Monica Bellucci is Beetlejuice’s wife, and Willem Dafoe plays the role of a dead policeman who used to be a B-movie action star.
At the end of the original movie, Beetlejuice is eaten by a giant sandworm, which Barbara is riding. You then see him sitting in the afterlife waiting room next to a witch doctor of some sort, whose number he steals while the character looks the other way. In response, the witch doctor tosses some sprinkles his way, and Beetlejuice’s head begins to shrink.
Beetlejuice was successfully wrangled and sent back to face the courts in the afterlife, so what brings him back to the iconic Maitland home after all these years? The short answer is Lydia’s daughter.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice picks up after the Deetz family suffers an unexpected tragedy. Lydia, Delia, and Astrid (Lydia’s rebellious teenage daughter) have decided to return to their family’s home in Winter River. When Astrid discovers the model town in the attic, she accidentally reopens the portal to the afterlife. It’s only a matter of time before someone says Beetlejuice three times and releases the mischievous maker of mayhem once again.

Tim Burton made a long-awaited public announcement via social media in November 2023, letting the world know that filming for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was completed after a months-long delay caused by the SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood. The director reported that he only had a day and a half left of filming when his operation was shut down due to the strikes. Wrapping the movie proved a long-awaited relief to both the director and his anxious fans.
