Teen Titans Live-Action Blockbuster Confirmed, Supergirl Writer Attached
DC Studios has officially greenlit a live-action Teen Titans movie. Under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran and the revamped DC Studios, the teenage superheroes will make the jump from animation to live-action. Ana Nogueira will write the screenplay, marking her second script for DC following Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
DC’s Greatest Team
The Teen Titans, originally introduced in the 1960s, started as a group of teenage sidekicks to some of DC’s most iconic heroes. Over the years, the team evolved and expanded, with new members like Beast Boy, Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire joining the ranks alongside familiar faces like Robin and Wonder Girl. While they started small, their adventures eventually captured the hearts of readers, culminating in the acclaimed 1980s run by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, which redefined the characters and propelled the Teen Titans to the top of DC’s sales charts.
Already A Massive Success
Despite various revamps and reconfigurations over the years, the Teen Titans remained a staple of DC Comics lore, with their popularity extending beyond the pages of comic books. The animated series Teen Titans Go! became a surprise hit, delighting audiences with its comedic and meta take on the superhero genre. With eight successful seasons (covering more than 400 episodes) and a feature film under its belt, Teen Titans Go! not only introduced the characters to a whole new generation of fans but solidified the crew as some of DC’s most beloved characters.
The Perfect Writer For The Teens
It was only a matter of time before the Teen Titans made their way to the silver screen in a live-action format. DC Studios has picked writer, actor, and director Ana Nogueira to lead the charge.
With credits on popular shows like The Vampire Diaries and Hightown, Nogueira has proven her versatility as a performer. Now, she’s showing she can do more than act, as proven by a burgeoning career as a writer. Her play, Which Way to the Stage, debuted off-Broadway to critical acclaim in 2022, she’s been enlisted to write the screenplay for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and now she’s writing Teen Titans.
The Teen Titans Are Going To Be In The Movies
As excitement builds for this long-awaited cinematic adventure, fans can rest assured that the Teen Titans are in capable hands with Nogueira at the helm. If Gunn and Safran trust Nogueira enough to entrust her with two upcoming DC flicks, that’s enough for us!
For now, all casting announcements, plots, and production details have yet to be announced. And there’s a number of directions DC could go to bring the Teen Titans to life.
An Impressive Roster To Choose From
Over the course of its history, the Teen Titans comic series has seen numerous cancellations and relaunches by DC Comics, showcasing a diverse array of characters as its featured heroes.
The original crew included Kid Flash, Robin, Aqualad, and Wonder Girl before being joined later by Speedy, Aquagirl, Bumblebee, Hawk, Dove, Harlequin, and three non-costumed heroes: the boxer Mal Duncan, the psychic Lilith, and the caveman Gnarrk. Overall, there have been dozens of Teen Titan characters introduced throughout the comics, which means there’s a lot to choose from when it comes to the live-action movie.
Forget The Titans
Will DC choose to focus only on the most well-known Teen Titans in the live-action film, or will they dive deep into the recesses of DC’s past to drag up some new and interesting characters? The only thing we can say for sure is that the live-action Titans series will, given the behind-the-scenes changes to the DC Universe, have no bearing on the upcoming film. stay tuned for more updates as the Teen Titans prepare to leap onto the silver screen.
