Deadpool & Wolverine Bringing Back Most Hated X-Men Actor?
After a candid revelation on a recent episode of The Playlist Podcast, speculation has been ignited that James Marsden might be reprising his role as Cyclops in the much-anticipated upcoming movie, Deadpool & Wolverine.
James Marsden Plays Coy
During an appearance on the podcast, the veteran actor was explicitly asked about his potential involvement in Deadpool & Wolverine. His response, while cryptic, left room for interpretation. “Who knows what the future holds?”, the actor teased, “We’ll see. I owe a huge part of my career to those films.” James Marsden neither confirms nor denies his participation, thus suggesting the possibility of seeing him donning Cyclops’s visor once again.
Cyclops
Originally cast in the role for the initial X-Men movies, James Marsden held the position of the team’s leader, Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops. Although Marsden’s portrayal was initially met with mixed reviews, the actor has since become synonymous with the character in the minds of fans and would be a welcome addition to Deadpool & Wolverine.
James Marsden In Jury Duty
Most recently, James Marsden has garnered significant praise for his role in the Amazon Prime TV show, Jury Duty. In the show, a far cry from Deadpool & Wolverine, Marsden self-deprecatingly plays a fictionalized version of himself. The show features a cast of actors, including Marsden, who are deliberating an unhinged trial. One juror is unaware that the entire trial and everyone around him is fake. Marsden earned himself an Emmy nomination in 2023 for his performance in the show.
Deadpool & Wolverine
Even without James Marsden, Deadpool & Wolverine will be packed with stars. Ryan Reynolds is set to bring back the hilarious and daring Deadpool, whose character injected new life into the franchise. Hugh Jackman, who announced his retirement from playing Wolverine, will be bringing Logan back to life in the new movie.
Confirmed to join Reynolds and Jackman (and possibly James Marsden?) in Deadpool & Wolverine are Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Briana Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Shioli Katsuna as Yukio. Plenty of speculation surrounding the cast exists, including whether Josh Brolin will return as Cable and whether Reynold’s friend Taylor Swift could make an appearance as Dazzler.
The Possibilities Are Endless
There is certainly no confirmation to the speculation of James Marsden appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine, but it paves the way to wondering if any of the other original X-Men cast could make a cameo. Fan-favorite characters like Professor X, played by Patrick Stewart, and Magneto, portrayed by Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen as Jean Grey, Halle Berry as Storm, and Anna Paquin as Rogue would certainly be welcomed by long-time fans. And with Andrew Garfield and Toby McGuire making cameos in the most recent Spider-man movie, anything seems possible.
Deadpool & Wolverine Releases This Summer
As the anticipation builds, fans await concrete news about the cast of the new Deadpool & Wolverine movie. With such a promising roster of characters and their acclaimed actors, the movie may be the biggest superhero ensemble yet to hit the screens — with or without James Marsden.
Fans won’t need to wait too much longer to have all their casting questions answered. The opening date for Deadpool & Wolverine is set for July 26.
