X-Men ’97 Showrunner Fired, Won’t Be Part Of Season 3
X-Men ’97 is Disney’s highly anticipated sequel to the 1990s X-Men animated series, and it’s something fans are passionate about. Because they’ve been so passionate, the show was immediately surrounded by controversy.
Unfortunately, some of that seems to have boiled over into the show’s production. I’ve learned that X-Men 97’s showrunner, Beau DeMayo, has been fired. Now the trades have confirmed my story.
DeMayo has already completed work on seasons 1 and 2 of X-Men ’97. But he won’t be involved with X-Men ’97 season 3.
Months ago, Beau DeMayo became wrapped up in some heavy fan antagonism over the show on X. The heat got so bad that he announced he was quitting the platform, and he hasn’t interacted with the fans publicly since deleting his account in May of 2023.
His disappearance from public life was prompted by fan outrage over the leak of his casting choice for the voice of Sunspot, a popular X-Men character. It seems unlikely, however, that this had anything to do with his premature departure from the show.
