Seth Rogen Is Writing An R-rated Spider-Man Spinoff Movie
The Spiderverse is set to expand even further. Seth Rogen is currently working on writing an animated Spider-Man spinoff movie focused on Venom.
The movie would be running in parallel to the live-action Venom movies Sony has already been making, in much the same way Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse has with the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. Best of all, unlike the Miles Morales animated Spider-Man movies, this Seth Rogen project will be rated R.
This news comes from the same insider source who helped me break the news that Donald Glover would be in Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse. If you’ve seen Across the Spiderverse, you probably saw Glover in action.
While primarily known as a comedy actor and writer, recently, Seth Rogen has recently begun writing big-release animated comic book movies. He co-wrote Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. That movie received stellar reviews upon release in 2023. It currently holds a 95% fresh rating amongst critics and a 90% fresh rating from audiences.
While TMNT: Mutant Mayhem was a PG-rated family movie, Rogen has a history as an R-rated movie writer. Having proven his ability to write scripts for animation, it’s easy to understand why he might jump at the chance to write something more adult, like a Venom movie.
