The Horror Series Everyone Slept On Based On Best-Selling Novel, Stream Without Netflix

Interview with the Vampire tells the story of Louis de Pointe du Loc, a wealthy man in early 20th-century Louisiana who is seduced and turned into a vampire by the charming Lestat de Lioncourt. The story is framed as an interview with the reporter Daniel, told by Louis who is wracked with guilt and grief. The story of his time as a vampire unfolds through the interview, painting Louis as a tragic and surprisingly heartfelt creature of the night. 

The show is an adaptation of Anne Rice’s 1976 novel, also titled Interview with the Vampire, the book that kicked off Rice’s immensely successful Vampire Chronicles series along with its various spin-off franchises. The novel was a masterpiece of gothic horror accompanying vampire horror with sensuality and eroticism. The novel’s homoerotic elements, sense of place, and tortured protagonist made it stand out in the horror genre, selling millions of copies worldwide and becoming a staple of modern horror. 

While many fans are familiar with the novel, others know the franchise through the 1994 film adaptation of Interview with the Vampire. Starring Brad Pitt as the tortured Louis, Tom Cruise as the hedonistic Lestat, and Kirsten Dunst as the child vampire, Claudia, the movie was a box office success and despite mixed critical response has endured as a beloved movie among horror fans. A far less beloved adaptation of the franchise’s third book Queen of the Damned followed in its footsteps in 2002. 

While the show lacks the star power of the 1994 Interview with the Vampire, it brings together a phenomenal cast with everyone perfectly fitting their roles. The cast includes Jacob Anderson as Louis, Sam Reid as Lestat, Eric Bogosian as Daniel, Bailey Bass as Claudia, and Assad Zamand as Armand. The supporting cast also has small roles from some fantastic character actors like John DiMaggio, Rae Dawn Chong, and Dana Gourrier

While Interview with the Vampire didn’t generate the buzz it deserves it did draw plenty of praise from critics. It earned a near-perfect 98 percent among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with the writing, performances, tone, and production quality all being heavily praised. It appeared on numerous Best Shows of 2022 lists with very few detractors. 

The second season of Interview WIth the Vampire premieres May 12, 2024, making now the perfect time to start the first season for fans hoping to catch the premier live. In addition to the second season, there are plans to adapt more of Anne Rice’s horror universe in what’s being called the Immortal Universe. The first, Mayfair Witches, released its first season in January 2023.

Fans of Anne Rice’s novels, or the 1994 film should absolutely watch this new adaptation which adds new elements that feel fresh without compromising the ideas that made earlier versions great.
