Cillian Murphy Saved By Cheese After Oppenheimer
Some people wind down after work with a long bath, some people watch TV, and Cillian Murphy – eats cheese. The actor talked about how he “did eat a lot of cheese” after portraying the scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer in the Oscar-nominated Oppenheimer. When asked about his cheese relaxation technique, his co-star Emily Blunt chimed in, saying, “Because he needed to decompress,” and, “Cheese is a great decompression.”
Cillian Murphy Winds Down With Cheese
Oppenheimer was undoubtedly a demanding role for Cillian Murphy, as he portrayed the complicated life of the man who helped create the atomic bomb. It’s definitely a heavy movie, and Murphy is on-screen for most of it. Fortunately, Murphy had plenty of good cheese on hand, saying that he had, “aged cheddar from cheddar companies.”
Indulging in your favorite foods is definitely a good way to celebrate a job well done, and Cillian Murphy and the cast of Oppenheimer certainly have a lot to celebrate. The film was a critical and commercial success and has since won various awards. Of course, there are still awards to win, as the film is up for multiple Oscars.
Oppenheimer Nabs Plenty Of Award Nominations
Cillian Murphy himself is up for the Best Actor nomination for his performance as the titular scientist. Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. also are nominated in the Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor categories for portraying Kitty Oppenheimer and Lewis Strauss, respectively.
The film is also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, and Best Sound.
Christopher Nolan Makes Award-Winning Films
It’s no surprise that Oppenheimer got nominated for so many Oscars, as it’s exactly the type of film that the Academy loves. Christopher Nolan’s films almost always nab a few nominations, and a prestige biopic with a stacked cast is almost always a shoo-in for at least a few awards. It doesn’t hurt that Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Robert Downey Jr turned in some of the best performances of their careers.
Barbenheimer Was A Big Deal
Oppenheimer was the surprise theatrical event of the season too, as the viral social media marketing phenomenon that was Barbenheimer took the world by storm. The juxtaposition of Greta Gerwig’s pink and surprisingly deep Barbie with the dour and dramatic Oppenheimer made for the perfect double feature, and the social media wave ended up being a boon for both films.
Everyone flocked to the theaters to see both films, which led to Oppenheimer exceeding expectations, and Barbie became the biggest blockbuster of the year, bringing in over $1.4 billion worldwide.
Cillian Murphy Earned His Cheese
Oppenheimer was no slouch at the box office either, coming in third place at the 2023 box office with a whopping $957.5 million. If Cillian Murphy and the rest of the creative team behind Oppenheimer can bring home some Oscars, then that cheddar Murphy has stocked up will probably taste that much better. You can tune into the 96th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, on Sunday, March 10, at 7 pm ET.
