Community Star Reveals Physical Altercation With Chevy Chase
It’s no secret that various cast members of Community weren’t very fond of co-star Chevy Chase, but Joel McHale recently admitted he even accidentally dislocated Chase’s shoulder one time. McHale appeared on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast and remembered how he and Chase would engage in “contentious” horseplay, saying, “You know horseplay…It wasn’t fun,” adding, “I got in trouble one time because I injured him.” McHale wrote about the incident in his book Thanks for the Money: How To Use My Life Story to Become the Best Joel McHale You Can Be and finished his story by saying, “Yeah, I dislocated his shoulder.”
Joel McHale And Chevy Chase
Since leaving Community, Chevy Chase has certainly held a grudge, making comments that the show wasn’t funny and that he hated his character. McHale has his own thoughts on Chase’s complaints, saying, “my response is, “Yeah, feeling’s mutual about your attitude, and you didn’t have to be there.” Of course, Chase and his co-stars were having issues far before he left the show.
Other Cast Members Had Problems
Joel McHale wasn’t the only Community cast member that had beef with Chevy Chase on set, as the show’s creator Dan Harmon and fellow cast member Donald Glover also frequently butted heads with Chase. Allegedly, Chase would often make racist remarks, and the use of a racial slur also allegedly led to his departure, in addition to the creative differences that everyone was having with Chase. Chevy Chase has had quite a few feuds over the years, so his issues on the set of Community aren’t too shocking.
An Amazing Cast
Community was a popular comedy series that followed a group of students at Greendale Community College. The series ran for six seasons and starred Joel McHale, Donald Glover, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, and Chevy Chase. Since the series ended (and even before it ended), there has been strong fan demand for a movie.
Chevy Chase Is Not Returning For the Movie
The Community movie is finally happening, though Chevy Chase will be the only main cast member not reprising his role. Filming was originally going to begin in summer 2023 but was delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. However, Joel McHale revealed that the movie is set to begin filming in June of this coming summer.
The Movie Script Is Complete
Earlier this month, Donald Glover revealed that the script for the Community movie is complete and revealed that the movie is going to be a college reunion. He also teased some details regarding Danny Pudi’s role in the movie, as Abed became a big director since the show ended and the film will be his “magnum opus.” Based on Glover’s description, it sounds like Harmon’s script for the Community movie will bring more of the meta-humor that fans love about the series.
Six Seasons And A Movie
Outside of the filming schedule and some light plot details, there is not much information about when the Community movie is going to come out. But it is good to know that the whole cast (minus Chevy Chase) is still on board to bring us back to Greendale Community College. Peacock won the bidding war for rights to the film, so we can likely expect to see it on that streaming platform, but a theatrical release is always possible.
