See The Hilarious Star Trek: The Middle School Musical
There’s nothing cuter than watching a middle school musical version of Star Trek. Rhett & Link created a new YouTube video called “Star Trek: The Middle School Musical” that features middle school students “boldly going where no one has gone before”…with musical numbers.
The Star Trek middle school musical is very reminiscent of the type of stage plays the Max Fischer Players would put on in Wes Anderson’s 1998 film Rushmore.
This parody is hilarious and charming. It’s great to see kids get into the original Star Trek. The video’s production value is sharp, even though it tries to look cheap and DIY. They even figured out a clever way to “beam” onto planets during the musical. Check out the hilarious Star Trek: The Middle School Musical.
The Star Trek: The Middle School Musical numbers are also very catchy, and it’s really good to watch an online video featuring real kids and not superstars or super-talented children. The fact that the kids aren’t the greatest of singers adds so much value to the overall video’s comedy.
My favorite moments in the Star Trek video are the “J.J. Abrams moves on to Star Wars” line, the poison flower killing the red shirt gag, and the Captain Kirk/Gorn slow-motion fight scene.
All of this is so great and a reminder that we should never take our favorite franchises all that seriously. Star Trek is no different and there a so many ways to see the funnier and lighter parts of this sci-fi franchise.
Rhett & Link are an online comedy duo from Sherman Oaks, California. They have been making online comedy videos and music parodies for years, and found success on the IFC Channel with their TV series Rhett & Link: Commercial Kings in 2011.
Rhett & Link also gained popularity on YouTube with the iLoveLocalCommercials web series. They also won a Webby Award in 2011.
This video is just another notch in their hilarious belt.
