Jonathan Majors Actually Heading To Prison?

By Britta DeVore | Published

If we’ve learned anything from true crime documentaries or even the criminal charges brought against Alec Baldwin and other members of the crew associated with Rust, it’s that the wheels of justice turn slowly. Such is now the case for ex-Marvel star Jonathan Majors, who will not be sentenced today as scheduled. The once-rising star had his sentencing date set for today but was set back after his defense lawyer, Priya Chaudry, filed a handful of new motions.

Sentencing Delayed

The decision on behalf of Jonathan Majors and his defense team isn’t a majorly shocking one as, after being found guilty of domestic violence charges at the end of 2023, the entertainer is facing jail time. From here, the court will take a look and discuss the motions later this afternoon. The sentencing was set to occur in a New York City courtroom, but with the new motions in play, the meeting will occur virtually.

Still, there’s only so long that Jonathan Majors’ legal representation can put off his sentencing. As of right now, it’s expected that the final decision will be cast later this month. Majors’ punishment for his guilty verdict as a first-time offender in a misdemeanor case ranges from an easily carried out probation to a full year behind bars.

Nearly A Year Since Charges Were Filed

The incident from which this particular set of charges stemmed happened almost a full year ago when Jonathan Majors’ now ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, said that a confrontation turned violent in the back of a private vehicle. While the event in question was troubling enough, text messages and other evidence from earlier such instances painted a bleak picture of a toxic relationship between Majors and Jabbari.

The End Of A Promising Career?

Immediately following his guilty verdict, Jonathan Majors found his once fruitful and blossoming career turned to ash. Last year, the actor was riding high, having just appeared alongside Glen Powell in the biographical war feature Devotion and gearing up for the release of Creed III. And then, of course, there was his stint with Marvel.

Jonathan Majors Future As Kang

For years, the superhero studio was keying Jonathan Majors up to be its next big villain, replacing Josh Brolin’s Thanos, who was killed off in Avengers: Endgame. Majors appeared on the hit series Loki as Kang and would go on to perform in the role in last year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Everything Marvel had been preparing for over the last few years came crumbling when they cut ties with Majors following his conviction.

A Potential Replacement

Without Jonathan Majors as their villain, the studio is panicking about where to go, with some difficult decisions over the horizon. While the most sense would probably be to steer away from Kang and go in another direction – no matter how much of a gut punch that may be – the studio is still considering casting another actor (perhaps John David Washington).

World Waits For The Sentencing

Regardless of how things shake out with the future of Marvel and Kang, one thing is for sure – Jonathan Majors will not be returning to the role. As his sentencing date approaches, no matter how many different motions his team files, the world will be waiting to discover how things will shake out with the disgraced actor.
