Beetlejuice 2 Reveals First Look And New Title

Scheduled for release on September 6, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice aims to capitalize on the post-Labor Day box office horror launchpad weekend, a tradition popularized by Warner Bros.’s successful franchises such as It and The Nun. Despite initial concerns stemming from an actors’ strike, director Tim Burton has confirmed that the film will hit theaters as planned, following some last-minute shots post-strike.

It’s been a long wait since the original Beetlejuice was released in theaters in 1988, becoming a cultural sensation and an instant classic in the kitschy horror-comedy genre. The original film grossed $75 million domestically. It marked the beginning of a fruitful creative partnership between Burton and Michael Keaton, who also collaborated on Batman, Batman Returns, and, years later, Disney’s live-action remake of Dumbo.

Returning for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice are key cast members Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara, reprising their iconic roles from the original film. Joining them in this eagerly awaited sequel are newcomers to the franchise but Hollywood veterans Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux.

The newly released movie poster depicts a pair of hands with grotesque fingernails holding a strip of paper with a very long number. The poster is bathed in the signature Beetlejuice eerie green light with the words “The wait is almost over” looming at the top of the poster. The release date, “09,06,24” is highlighted in green on the strip of paper.

For those who need their memory jogged, the poster is a callback to how the original Beetlejuice movie ended. After Michael Keaton’s character is defeated, he’s sent to the afterlife waiting room, where he receives a ticket with the number 9,998,383,750,000. Noticing the sign that says the room is now serving ticket 3, Beetlejuice steals ticket #4 from a witch doctor sitting next to him and gets his head shrunk as the doctor returns his ticket.

While the plot of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is still tightly under wraps, it’s safe to assume, based on the movie poster, that whatever unfolds in the movie will happen after Beetlejuice’s number is finally called. 

It’s been more than just Beetlejuice waiting for this sequel to come out. Rumors have been swirling for decades that Keaton and Burton were going to get together again and make a second film, but no one expected it to take 36 years for it to happen. 

Even after the production was finally greenlit and making headway, roadblocks continued to pop up. In addition to delays caused by last year’s strikes, the production of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice faced a setback when the film’s Vermont set was burglarized in mid-July. State police shared images of a stolen sculpture piece from the set located in East Corinth.

As anticipation builds for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, fans can expect a blend of nostalgia and fresh elements as the beloved characters return for another eerie adventure. With its star-studded cast and Burton’s signature style, the sequel is poised to captivate audiences once again when it hits theaters later this year.
