Sarah Michelle Gellar New Series Canceled
The television drama Wolf Pack, featuring Sarah Michelle Gellar, has been canceled by Paramount+ after just one season. While the show had not officially received a renewal for Season 2, the production team had reportedly been working on it, with plans for filming to begin in February. Series creator Jeff Davis communicated the cancellation to the cast earlier in the week.
Wolf Pack Canceled
Adapted from the novel series by Edo Van Belkom, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Wolf Pack follows Everett (Armani Jackson) and Blake (Bella Shepard), whose lives are altered forever when a California wildfire unleashes a terrifying supernatural creature that attacks them and, along with fraternal twins Harlan (Tyler Lawrence Gray) and Luna (Chloe Rose Robertson).
A Werewolf Series
Following the attack, the teens, who are inexplicably drawn to each other, meet during a full moon, which reveals their connection to be the bite and blood of a werewolf.
The series, which also stars Rodrigo Santoro, premiered in January 2023 and is executive produced by Davis, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Joe Genier, and Mike Elliott of Capital Arts, with Jason Ensler also serving as an executive producer.
A Return For Sarah Michelle Gellar
Best known for her role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, Sarah Michelle Gellar has been absent from the lead role in a live-action series since 2014.
However, Wolf Pack saw her return to a leading role. Gellar portrayed Kristin Ramsey, an arson detective investigating the mysterious forest fire that appears to have awakened a werewolf.
Critical And Audience Scores
Wolf Pack concluded its eight-episode season in March 2023. At that time, Sarah Michelle Gellar expressed her excitement for a second season, sharing her optimism and teasing potential developments for Kristin if the show continued.
“I think you’ll definitely have more of that. And I think now, she’s gonna have to figure out who the voice on the phone is,” the actress said.
But despite earning respectable viewership numbers in the early months of 2023, Wolf Pack received mixed critical reviews, holding a 44 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, its audience score stands notably higher at 86 percent. The cancellation coincides with Paramount+’s ongoing cost-cutting efforts, which include significant layoffs.
What’s Next
In a memo to the team, Bob Bakish mentioned that the company would continue reducing its global workforce to operate more efficiently. The decision was made as part of an overall strategy to focus resources on the most successful franchises, films, and series with global appeal, which executives felt the Sarah Michelle Gellar series lacked.
Sarah Michelle Gellar will also be absent from the upcoming Cruel Intentions series. The project has received an eight-episode order and is expected to be available on Amazon’s free streaming service, Freevee.
However, the series might move to Prime Video during its development. Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon, who also appeared in the 1999 film, will not appear either.
Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Career
Sarah Michelle Gellar began her acting career at a young age, with appearances in commercials and television shows.
After gaining widespread recognition as Buffy, her career extended to film, where she starred in successful projects like I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997, Cruel Intentions in 1999, Scooby-Doo in 2002, and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed in 2004. She has also been involved in philanthropic work.
