Yellowjackets Season 3 Announcement Sours The Excitement

Though the writers room for the series reopened this past September, it has been announced that season 3 won’t see its premiere until sometime in 2025.

An entire year seems like a long time to wait for Yellowjackets season 3 to premiere, but it’s not too terrible of a fate to endure. Things could be way worse.

You could be trapped in the woods with limited survival skills for 19 months and find yourself wondering what your classmates taste like when roasted over an open fire because the hunger is too much to handle.

The good news is that if you haven’t yet checked out Yellowjackets, then you have plenty of time to catch up on the series before season 3 makes its rounds.

You could have a … crash course, so to speak. Morbid humor aside, there’s a lot to take in, so if you start now you can take things slow.

Yellowjackets has a simple premise across two timelines. Each episode jumps from 1996 to 2021, slowly revealing more information about the character’s lives on each respective timeline.

As each narrative unravels, so does each character.

In the 1996 timeline, we are introduced to the Yellowjackets, a New Jersey-based all girl’s high school soccer team.

While traveling on the national tournament circuit, their plane crashes deep in the Canadian Wilderness, leaving them stranded with limited resources or survival skills.

Yellowjackets’ second season ended with the girls preparing to succumb to cannibalism, so we’ll see how far down this rabbit hole they’ll go in season 3.

25 years later, we learn how the survivors are coping with their traumatic pasts, and they’re not doing so great.

Living lives rife with extramarital affairs, political scandal, blackmail, and paranoia, it’s clear that although they survived the wilderness, they took something dark along with them into adulthood.

Yellowjackets left us with a botched ritual sacrifice, but we won’t know the extent of the subsequent fallout until season 3 premieres in 2025.

While we wait for Yellowjackets to further explore the depths of desperation and depravity in season 3, the series is making its rounds this awards season.

The Christina Ricci starring series was nominated for seven Primetime Emmy Awards (including Outstanding Drama Series), and is nominated for several more accolades in the coming months.

What’s more, season 2, which just concluded its run this past May, currently boasts a 94 percent critical score on Rotten Tomatoes.

If Yellowjackets maintains its current trajectory, then season 3 will continue to disturb us when the series finally comes out of hibernation.

It’s tragic that we’re going to have to wait so long for a continuation. But if the Yellowjackets can survive 19 months of horrific living conditions after their plane crash in 1996, we can probably survive the wait.
