Sinead O’Connor Cause Of Death Revealed
After her sudden and tragic death in July of 2023, a United Kingdom coroner has finally revealed Sinead O’Connor’s cause of death. Confoundingly, the coroner has determined that the 56-year-old singer, songwriter, and social activist has died of natural causes.
Died Of Natural Causes
Though it is upsetting news, these results seem to echo the sentiment of first responders who discovered O’Connor’s body, dubbing the death as not suspicious.
While it is out of the ordinary for someone of Sinead O’Connor’s age to pass away from natural causes, it has been known to happen. The most common killers of adults over 50 tend to be cancer, cardiovascular disease, or vehicular injury, per worldwide statistics.
Now that London’s Southwark coroner’s court has determined the cause of death, the family and loved ones of the iconic musician are free to grieve in peace.
Writing New Music?
Sinead O’Connor is survived by her three children, who have chosen to remain largely out of the spotlight. After O’Connor’s passing in July, the family released a joint statement citing their devastation and requesting privacy.
During her final months, Sinead O’Connor had publicly expressed interest in writing and recording new music, leaving many fans to wonder if the family will have a hand in posthumously releasing any of her existing work.

Ireland’s president Michael D Higgins hailed the “Thank You For Hearing Me” singer for her unique talent behind the microphone, wile taoiseach Leo Varadkar noted the wide appeal of her incomparable musical style.
Tributes for the singer appeared all over social media, including those shared by artists such as Janelle Monae, Bear McCreary, Toni Collette, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Public Enemy.
The Lion And The Cobra
Sinead O’Connor’s music career began in 1987 with the release of her chart-topping debut record The Lion And The Cobra.
From 87 through 2021, the singer consistently released boundary-pushing musical experiences, amassing a discography of 10 full-length studio albums, two EPs, one live recorded release, and five compilation projects.
Her most recent LP was 2014’s I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss, which peaked at number 1 on Ireland’s popular music charts.
Tribute Concert Coming
A tribute concert has been arranged to honor the memory of both Sinead O’Connor and late Irish singer Shane MacGowan who passed away in November.
The concert is currently set for March 20 in New York City, with headlining acts including David Gray, Cat Power, Dropkick Murphys and Glen Hansard.
Many other acts have been announced for smaller roles at the big show, including a host of popular Irish musicians inspired by O’Connor’s work.
Memory Lives On
Though fans and friends alike will continue to mourn the loss of Sinead O’Connor for years to come, the artist’s memory lives on in the form of her extensive body of work.
