Dave Chappelle Takes Offending People To A New Level, Cancelation Inevitable?
Professional sh*tstirrer and comedian Dave Chappelle is back with possibly his most offensive special yet. Chappelle’s The Dreamer recently debuted on Netflix, and boy, it is a doozy. When a comedian gleefully declares, “I love punching down!” it’s a good bet that things are about to get controversial.
Luckily for the LGBTQIA+ community—specifically its transgender members—Dave Chappelle revealed his new favorite punching bag during the special: people with disabilities. “Tonight, I’m doing all handicapped jokes,” the 50-year-old comedian declared. “They’re not as organized as the gays and I love punching down.”

Chappelle then went on to make a joke about Madison Cawthorn, a paraplegic former North Carolina Republican representative. He told a story about meeting Cawthorn that ended with the punchline, “Then I just walked away. I wanted him to see me do something he couldn’t do. I skipped.”
The comedian also made light of Cawthorn’s claims that he was invited to sex parties when he worked in Washington. “I don’t doubt they do this sh*t in Washington,” admitted Dave Chappelle before wondering out loud who the “f***” would invite someone in a wheelchair to an orgy.
Continues Making Trans Jokes
Despite claiming to be done with jokes at the trans community’s expense, Chappelle couldn’t help himself and made sure he got in a few zingers. He discussed meeting Jim Carrey on the set of the Andy Kaufman biopic Man on the Moon.
The comedian discussed his disappointment at having to pretend that he was talking to Andy Kaufman in order to appease Carrey, who refused to break character during the entire shoot. “I say all that to say … that’s how trans people make me feel,” said Dave Chappelle, likening being transgender to method acting.
Not content to stop there, Chappelle joked later in the set that if he were ever to be sent to prison, he would request his sentence to take place in California. That way, Dave could tell the judge that he identified as a woman, allowing him to do his time in a women’s prison.
Quips About His 2022 Attack
The Half-Baked star even managed to take some shots at the LGBTQIA+ community during his bit about being assaulted at the Hollywood Bowl in 2022. According to Dave Chappelle, his assailant had a “knife that identified as a gun” and identified as bisexual. That last part is true, and Dave used it as a setup to say that he could have been “raped.”
The extended bit involving the 2022 incident did result in an instance of, well, if not exactly, punching up, at least punching sideways. Chappelle likened what happened at his show to the infamous Will Smith Oscar slap, pointing out that Chris Rock was more upset that security didn’t immediately tackle Smith than he was about the actual slap.
Dave went on to say that his security team gave his would-be assailant quite the “wallop” and that if it had been him on stage instead of Rock when Smith attacked, security would have made sure that the Hancock actor didn’t “enjoy the rest of his evening.”
The Dreamer Is Streaming On Netflix
Could any of this lead to Dave Chappelle being canceled? Not a chance. Netflix certainly isn’t going to drop their golden goose, and even if they did, he would get offered a multimillion-dollar deal from Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire or some other conservative outlet in a heartbeat. No, Dave Chappelle is here to stay.
