See Alan Ritchson As Batman After Fans Support His Casting
Alan Ritchson is looking to level up his superhero game. He has been impressing audiences in the title role of Reacher, and he also dazzled by playing the heroic Hawk in Titans (one of our favorite junk food superhero shows). Recently, the star threw out that he’d love to play Batman in James Gunn’s DCU, and thanks to Instagram user spdrmnkyxxiii, we can see what Ritchson would look like playing Gotham City’s vigilante hero.
In addition to the interesting art, this user made some solid points regarding why Alan Ritchson would make for a great onscreen Batman. For example, he might not wear a cape and cowl, but Ritchson is already an impressively hulking hero in Amazon’s Reacher series. It’s easy to see that he has the goods when it comes to his killer physique and awesome action scenes, so it’s not exactly a “reach” to imagine him suiting up as the Dark Knight.
Additionally, spdrmnkyxxiii argued that Alan Ritchson would make a great Batman because he demonstrated a powerful Batman-like voice when he was the voice actor for Raphael in the live-action films Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. That’s a very astute argument: not only has Raphael always been the most Batman-like of the Ninja Turtles, but in the animated film TMNT, he even snuck out at night as a masked, Batman-like vigilante known as the Nightwatcher.
The Instagram user’s final point is quite subjective, but it’s one we certainly agree with: that Alan Ritchson as Batman would look great alongside David Corenswet as Superman. The DCEU seriously dropped the ball when it came to the relationship between Batman and Superman, and many fans are hoping that James Gunn will do a better job in the DCU of bringing the World’s Finest to life. David Corenswet already looks like he’ll be perfect as both Clark Kent and Superman; Alan Ritchson’s Reacher performance makes us think he’d look great as Bruce Wayne, and as this Instagram art proves, he’d look even better as the Dark Knight.
As much as we’re ready to see Alan Ritchson suit up as Batman, though, we don’t yet know how likely that is to become a reality. James Gunn hasn’t said anything on the matter, so all we have to go on is the intense fan demand as well as Ritchson’s own confirmation that he would love to play this famous superhero on the big screen. With that being said, he most certainly has the credentials: many years before suiting up as Hawk on Titans, he played Aquaman on Smallville, so it’s fair to say the actor has spent much of his acting career perfecting onscreen portrayals of fan-favorite DC superheroes.
We’re ultimately hopeful about Alan Ritchson getting cast as Batman for the simple reason that nobody is a bigger geek about superhero fandom than James Gunn. As Variety reports, Gunn once wrote on Twitter, “It’s important we acknowledge you, the fans, & let you know we hear your different desires for the pathways forward for DC.” If you want to see Alan Ritchson don the cape and cowl in the DCU, it’s best to continue writing supportive social media posts and creating more killer art like this in the hopes that Gunn lives up to his words and gives fans the Batman of their dreams.
