Stranger Things Creators Kill Popular Fan Theory Ending
The upcoming fifth and final season of Stranger Things is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated TV projects at the moment. The lore and subtle hints throughout the series have led fans to create a ton of theories about the potential ending to the show, and the creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, recently went out of their way to snuff out one popular fan theory. Fan theory states that the main characters of the series are actually playing a game of Dungeons and Dragons, and what we see on screen is essentially their imagination as they play through the campaign.
When asked about the theory at the new Stranger Things play in London, Matt Duffer simply replied, “No.” Ross Duffer added to the statement, saying, “That would be the equivalent of, ‘That’s all a dream,” adding that they have known the ending for the show for “a while.”
So, if you were afraid you were going to get a TV Tropes-style end to this Netflix show, you now have nothing to worry about.
You certainly can’t blame fans for thinking that the Dungeons and Dragons reveal could be a potential ending to Stranger Things. The main characters often play the game and even name the evils of the Upside Down after D&D characters. Season One’s Demogorgon was the first to get a D&D-based moniker, while the overall series big bad, the Mind Flayer, was given its name in Season 2. Last season, the characters named Jamie Campbell Bower’s character ‘Vecna,’ who is a wizard that became a lich in D&D lore.
Fans have been waiting (sort of) patiently for the fifth season of Strange Things, which delayed production during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes over the summer. However, things are finally set to begin filming in January, so hopefully, we’ll get a release date soon. It seems unlikely that we’ll get a 2024 release at this point, but fans are surely hoping we get to see the ending some time in 2025.
Stranger Things Season 5 will see the main cast of Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Priah Ferguson, Winona Ryder, and David Harbour return to Hawkins once again. Terminator star Linda Hamilton will also join the cast. Regardless of how the series ends, it will undoubtedly be a huge and epic ending.
It has also been revealed that Stranger Things Season 5 will be even bigger in scale and ambition than the already ambitious Season 4, which was one of the best-reviewed seasons of the show. If the Duffer Brothers are able to pull off the ending, it could very well go down as Netflix’s best series. With reported spin-offs set in the Stranger Things universe on the horizon, there is definitely a lot riding on this final season.
