The Best Comedy Series Of The Decade Canceled, Final Season Announced

According to a recent write-up in Variety, the upcoming 12th season of Larry David’s iconic HBO series, Curb Your Enthusiasm, will be the show’s last. This is intriguing as Larry David has vowed never to write a proper series finale again after his Seinfeld finale received mixed reactions from critics and fans.

HBO’s Running Green Light

The series famously held a running green light from HBO, allowing David to come and go with new episodes as he pleased with very few notes or restrictions, making the show some of the sardonic comedian’s most unfiltered and esoteric material ever produced.

Once Seinfeld concluded its historic television run in 1998, series co-creator Larry David could have rested on his mountain of money and never addressed his keen observations to the public ever again.

Seinfeld On Steroids

Luckily, the New York-born comedian was discontent with retired life, opting instead to create Curb Your Enthusiasm for HBO.

The series, which sees Larry David portraying an exaggerated version of himself, has been commonly referred to as ‘Seinfeld on steroids’ by fans, due to the show’s observational humor, combined with the no-holds-barred guidelines on nudity, cursing, and other adult material.

Larry David Announces Ending

Now, after running 12 seasons in 24 years, Larry David has chosen to say goodbye to Curb Your Enthusiasm finally, and with it, his exaggerated television persona.

In a statement to the press announcing the show’s official conclusion, David released a sarcastic remark regarding his joy at throwing the repugnant persona of television Larry away, and finally embodying the spirit of a kind, humble, and caring person for the first time in all his 76 years.

The series will forever go down in history as one of the greatest turn-of-the-century comedies, inspiring generations of comedic storytellers, and even spawning a prolific meme with its ear-worm theme song.

Finale And Spin-Offs?

Of course, it seems unlikely that Larry David will opt for a massive Curb Your Enthusiasm finale given his past. Though the rogues gallery of guest performers would surely make for an incredible ensemble piece.

Fans have already begun calling for a Curb spin-off starring some of the show’s funniest side characters such as J.B. Smoove’s Leon Black, who joined the cast back in the season 6 episode, “The Anonymous Donor.”

Richard Lewis has already confirmed that this season would be his last with the show, due to a recent diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease which has begun to hinder his mobility.
