Station 19 Canceled At ABC, Season 7 Is The End

Per Deadline, the upcoming seventh season of the hit ABC series Station 19 is set to be the show’s last. This decision was made amicably between the network and the production team, who have decided to pen the final episodes of the season as a conclusive finale to the beloved firefighting series. This puts an end to the incredibly far-reaching stories of some of television’s most beloved characters, some of whom got their start on the flagship series Grey’s Anatomy.

A Casualty Of The Strikes

Like many other shows, Station 19 was impacted by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes earlier this year, which halted progress from the upcoming season as union workers fought for fairer wages, benefits, and reasonable protections from artificial intelligence. With many shows and feature films originally slated for 2024 already being pushed into 2025 and beyond, it should come as no surprise that a host of existing series will be coming to an end.

A Popular Grey’s Anatomy Spin-Off

Other shows that will be getting the axe in the wake of the strikes include A Black Lady Sketch Show, Call Me Kat, Gotham Knights, and Hulu’s How I Met Your Father. For Station 19, however, the series may have seemed too big to fail as it rapidly established itself as a close second to Grey’s Anatomy. Fans will already be aware that Station 19 originated as a spinoff to the hit hospital drama, though the series quickly took on a unique and original perspective, prompting an overwhelming fan response.

The Final Season Will Conclude With The 105th Episode

The seventh season of Station 19 will result in the series running over 100 episodes, at a grand total of 105. This is a massive milestone that shouldn’t be overlooked, even as the show stands in the shadow of Grey’s Anatomy‘s staggering 420-episode run and counting. In addition to the strikes, Station 19 saw a host of behind-the-scenes changes preceding the seventh season’s production, including the appointment of a new pair of co-showrunners.

New Showrunners

The new showrunners, Peter Paige and Zoanne Clack, have a great deal of experience helming hit series’ with writing and producing credits such as The Fosters, Good Trouble, and of course, Grey’s Anatomy behind them. Clack’s tenure on Station 19 has been well noted, as she was appointed to the position of head writer in August of 2022 following the reveal of some underlying racial issues plaguing the production. With the upcoming season serving as the finale of the show, fans will no doubt be watching for whatever Zoanne Clack brings her signature wit and writing style to next.

The Final Season’s Release Date

The final season of Station 19 is expected to premiere on March 14, 2024. The series will air 10 episodes weekly, Thursday nights at 10 PM. Station 19‘s original time slot of 8 PM will be filled with a new-to-ABC series, 9-1-1, which originally aired on Fox.

For fans of the series, it will surely be a tearful affair to see Station 19 go. Of course, there is always hope for your favorite characters and locations to appear in future seasons or possible spin-offs of Grey’s Anatomy.
