The Mandalorian Season 4 Canceled And Being Turned Into A Movie?
Star Wars News Net suggests that The Mandalorian may continue in the form of a movie instead of season 4 as originally planned. Citing the Hollywood labor disputes delaying production as the reason for this change of pace, Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic podcast mentioned that if this rumor turns out to be true, it will still come out ahead of the upcoming Star Wars movie starring Daisy Ridley as Rey.
Dave Filoni’s Mando Movie
There are a number of moving parts to consider in regard to The Mandalorian and its season 4 release. We all know by now that Dave Filoni has planned a Star Wars movie that was meant to be the logical conclusion to the Mandoverse saga. If The Mandalorian gets a movie instead of season 4, it remains to be seen if this movie would be an additional installment that would precede Filoni’s film or if it would replace it outright.
Season 4 And A Movie?
Since The Mandalorian was originally supposed to play out in the form of season 4, and Dave Filoni was working on the stunning conclusion to the entire saga anyway, it certainly sounds like we’d get both. If a movie were to materialize, it’s reasonable to assume that it would be in addition to Filoni’s epic cinematic finale that would tie up all of the loose ends from The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka series. But we’re just speculating here, and sifting through the rumors until something more official is announced.
Could This Change Din Djarin’s Story?
But that seems like the most likely scenario when you look at the facts. The Mandalorian is going to have a season 4 no matter what. Whether season 4 ends up being a batch of serialized episodes or getting reworked into a movie shouldn’t disrupt Dave Filoni‘s movie. In other words, if the season was already planned out with Filoni’s movie in mind as the conclusion to the entire saga, then whatever storytelling was planned would still need to take place to set up the conclusion.
Daisy Ridley’s Rey Movie
In addition to all of the rumors surrounding The Mandalorian and how season 4 will play out, Star Wars News Net also dispelled the rumor about the upcoming Daisy Ridley-led Star Wars film. Though it was stated this past June that the upcoming movie was scheduled to begin filming this coming April, the SAG-AFTRA strike kicked off on July 14, and only saw its resolution on November 9, 2023. In an ideal world, this movie would still come out in May 2026, but it really depends on when the script is completed, and how quickly its development moves along despite the production delays.
When To Expect More Mandalorian
With all this in mind, The Mandalorian season 4 should still be ready in 2025. What remains a question, however, is whether it will be serialized like its preceding three seasons, or a more streamlined and condensed version in the form of a feature film. If season 4 gets rewritten as a movie, we hope this will be in addition to Dave Filoni’s planned movie rather than a replacement.
